I would remove the loose rock edging and the solar lights. Then I’d pick two or three types of plants and repeat them. Maybe three identical roses underplanted with several matching Heucheras and/or Salvias. I’d have pale, small flowered daffodils and purple alliums thickly planted throughout the bed.

It is nearly impossible to give useful help when we can't see how a specific area relates to the rest of the house.

That's true in the grand scheme of things. So I just responded on the assumption the bed would remain as it is and overall design changes weren't envisaged.

I really appreciate & like your suggestion. how would you place all the things you suggested in this odd square bed? I am sick if looking at this area and want to get it done this weekend

I'd pick a color scheme. Pink/white/purple or Yellow/red/orange.

Then, I'd have, say some big plants in the back, medium in the middle and small in the front. You want to stagger the plantings so they aren't in rows.

To wit: Rose in the back, divide the Calla into 3, put them in the middle, salvia then heuchera around the edges, with alliums placed according to size.

Or, put the Knipofias in the back, some hostas in the middle (if they won't get too much sun and are yellow or green), then the Stellas, which you can divide into 4, and get some coreopsis for the front. Or marigolds.

Since the bed is viewable from all sides it doesn’t have a back as such so taller plants should be in the middle. Personally I dislike alternating edging schemes and patterns so I’d plant in groups. Essentially just move your plants around until you’re happy. I’d put the Calla elsewhere, maybe in a large pot. To my mind it doesn’t suit the feel of the other plants. Too exotic.

Replanting a bed in July is pretty hard on the plants, especially since this is a west facing, full sun bed. If you can't wait a couple of months, do you have a large umbrella to shade them?
