Do you have small dogs? If you have a Terrier, I think you'll be fine. If you have a Boxer, not so fine.

I think a pet washing station will be a custom thing, so any width is possible.

Do you have a pet store nearby that offers a wash-your-own-dog station? If so, go look at the details they built in. Measure their stations. What I see in the pet stores near me:

- A clip that allows you to restrain the dog in the wash station -- absolutely necessary

- A spray hose -- that name doesn't seem right

- A shelf to hold shampoo, etc. -- positioned so that the dog can't knock them off

- Hooks nearby to hold towels

- A waterproof floor underneath

- A door that closes off the mudroom (mudroom?) so the dog can't escape while you're prepping
