They love socks, shoes, and pet hair.

OK, well, I located the plants where they were coming from. They are all dead. Dried up. No leaves. The clingy seeds are contained in little fuzzy ball-shaped clusters. They look out of focus in this picture, but they're not. They're really just fuzzy.

The first picture in my link shows that. I often get the two mixed up.

Ah, right you are. I think we're talking "Hedge Parsley". It is Apiaceae, which is really a parsley. Allegedly, it might even be edible, but presumably not the seeds! Thank you.

So evil: as kids, we used to fling a stemful at someone's backside as a practical joke, and wait for them to sit down.

I hand pulled every patch in my small yard years ago and haven't had any since. You have to trace it back to find the center, since they spread out really long runners, away from the main roots.
