Now there's a conifer garden! There's so much there it's almost overwhelming. I believe he's in the landscaping business, and it shows. Do you know if Ryan's place was on the ACS tour when it was to be held in the Quad Cities a few years ago? It ended up being cancelled due to Covid, but hopefully I can get back down there in the not too distant future and visit Bickelhaupt Arboretum.

Oh my gosh - simply stunning! Agree with @maackia that it’s almost overwhelming! What a beautiful Ginko tree in first pic - what is that little kitty up to? Hope not a claw sharpening! What is the plant in second pic with brillant red flowers? Wonder if part of this garden’s beauty is the pops of color & texture that’s different from all the conifers. I do know that Ginko is a very old conifer but it’s not typical conifer texture. Thanks so much @plantkiller_il_5 for shariing these pics!

    Good job Ron...
I like the fact their property isn't flat...
What the've done is amazing and the rocks/boulders is beyond reproach.
    So very very nice!

Ron, thanks for taking the time to post these here. I usually ran into issues trying to add photos here for some reason and gave up.

I'll take a stab at some of the questions and thanks to all for the compliments.

maackia: We are in the landscape business, primarily maintenance though. The original acs national tour was cancelled, but we did have a final iowa rendezvous in June last year. Definitely hit us up if you come down to see Bickelhaupt.

KW, for some reason our cat thinks that all of the ginkgos in the garden are his personal scratching posts...arrrg. The red bloomer is Paeonia tenuifolia Rubra Flora Plena, the double fernleaf peony. One of my favorite plants in the garden.

    Thanks again all,

    Ryan

    What's facebook?

That's beyond what a home gardener can properly maintain, even if you get the entire magnificent garden installed for you!

    ----------------------

BTW, I experienced my first 'houzz.com down' event, was it a scheduled/announced maintenance or something else?

Now that you're saying it, I'm more of a landscaper than a gardener myself. I landscape (my front and backyard) although of course on a much, much, much smaller scale (so that I can do a halfway decent maintenance job) but most maintenance is pulling weeds which is what a gardener typically does, LOL

    picea glauca pendula

Pictures of this garden with all the conifers always makes me drool! Really shows that a garden with no perennials or large display of flowers can be just as beautiful & inspiring with all its colors and textures of conifers.

Very nice. How did they do that with Picea glauca ’Pendula’?
