I'm not sure where you are located but have you considered how hot it gets when the ac goes out? I would rather have a ceiling fan than have to rely on box fans to keep cool.

We just had our 16 yr old a/c compressor die. The hvac company loaned us a portable ac unit but it only cooled 1/4 of the house. Our 9 ceiling fans kept 6 people and 4 pets comfortable.

Maybe you are right and I should reconsider a fan. I'm in CT, though, so we don't have a lot of really hot weather and I'm putting ceiling fans in the other bedrooms.

For me in Florida, practicality won out, we have ceiling fans in the bedrooms, they keep the air moving and the a/c turned down.

Ceiling fans are pretty much a must here in the south. Having moving air in a bedroom helps with both the heat and the humidity. Stagnant air can really cause musty odors in homes here.

I too was thinking of a chandelier instead of my fan. Fan won out but I hired a decorative painter and transformed the fan into a beautiful antique pewter. Made it a wow factor.

My bedroom is somewhat French country. My bedside lamps are definitely FC. I have a ceiling fan because it does get hot here - it's not Arizona, but there are at least four pretty hot weeks (over 90 degrees) every summer and the rest of the time it's definitely warm. The style of the fan is pretty modern so I got white so it blends with the ceiling and isn't as noticeable. I know a chandelier would be more attractive, but practicality always wins with me. No one is coming to do a photoshoot of my room for a magazine anytime soon. :-)

In CT you don’t need a ceiling fan in every bedroom. You can always get a floor fan or table fan for more air circulation, if you need one - and I would imagine you will have AC in the house. CT is not Florida or the South, etc. You only have have about 2 months of really hot weather. Do you really want to look at an inactive ceiling fan in your master for the rest of the year?

Another thing you can look at are fandeliers; they are fans that double as light fixtures - they do not look like typical fans.

But if you want a classic chandelier in your master bedroom - you should go for it. I am not really sure what the constraints are with size and everything that you refer to. Consider talking to some local lighting pros.

They also make “fandeliers” now, some of which have retractable blades.

The clearance issues may not be clearance issues at all. People hang chandeliers in bedrooms all the time, and it doesn’t have to be a mission impossible scenario.

Consult with some electricians and local lighting pros.

If it’s a matter of how low the chandelier is hung - look at the bedroom pic I posted; you see the chandelier is hung further toward the end of the bed, so not right overhead, and you can also see it better that way.

People hang all sizes of chandeliers in bedrooms. Talk to pros. :)
