Help with a small apartment kitchen

We just bought a small studio apartment for our daughter. We are not able to renovate the kitchen at this time so I am looking for some suggestions on updating the current condition. We are planning on painting/refinishing the kitchen Cabinets. The cabinet over the stove is awkward and would like to remove it but I am not sure what to do about the hood. Any suggestions on what to do with the kitchen would be great!

What are the center panels in the cabinets made of? Are they glass, plastic, painted wood, melamine?

It's a cute little kitchen! I actually like the cabinets. I too am curious what the center panels are. They look like frosted glass. I like the wood against the crisp white countertops. And the tone works well with the flooring.

To me it looks like there might be an issue accessing the corner cabinet between the cabinet above the hood and the wall. Can that even open? Otherwise, it looks like there is a missing drawer or drawer front that needs to be replaced. Obviously it's a tight space. Additional cabinetry above the fridge and the little countertop next to the stove might be helpful for storage, but it might not be worth the cost to try to get cabinets to match.

It’s a cute little kitchen. My first thought is that the corner cabinet should be open. I would remove the doors and use it to display often used items. That open wall on the left can be used for beautiful art or perhaps a useful place hang dish towels and pot holders. The wood finish looks good in the photos. Is there damage or wear that is not apparent?

I think black hardware would really make it cute!

Its too early to plan changes in this kitchen. Let her live there for a while and determine what she likes/doesn't like about it. To improve it for the short term, get a nice looking semi-flush ceiling fixture (may need to change them throughout) and add LEDs under the upper cabinets. Hang a great piece of art or a poster on that wall by the pantry, and add a washable rug from Ruggable. Best idea would be to stock the pantry for her and buy a cute set of Corelle or Fiesta dishes and some flatware, and an instant pot. She'll be ready to rock and roll!

Center panels are frosted glass. The wood fronts and cabinets are in good condition. The corner cabinet is hard to open so we could see about removing the doors and making it an open cabinet. I like that idea. I was thinking of putting up shelves although I like the idea of art maybe with a shelf?

I also really like this kitchen--it seems pretty functional/spacious for a studio! Same question as others about that back corner cabinet. If it can't be opened, I'd probably take the door off (unless you can access it from the other door, in which case it seems fine aesthetically to just leave it). Does the hood vent out or is it just recirculating? If recirculating and venting out isn't an option, an over-the-range micro/hood combo might work there. And I'd see if you can replace the refrigerator with a taller counter-depth one if you can find one at that width. ETA: And I definitely wouldn't paint the cabinets unless there's some damage that isn't visible here!

I would consider a new countertop. Formica or Corian type products could provide some color and a smooth surface to work on.

It looks fine in the photos. Since the wood finish is in good shape, and wood shows dings less readily than paint, I'd leave the cabinets as they are. The tile looks like its in good shape, too. Polish the counter tile (and sink) with Kitchen Wax once every six months or so if she wants it easier to clean. Add one large framed artwork for decor.

This nice little kitchen has two drawers which means that less has to be more (ore more has to be stored elsewhere). Add a folding dish drying rack https://www.target.com/p/bamboo-dish-drying-rack-threshold-8482/-/A-14771057 that can be stored under the sink when she's preparing meals on the tile counters. A magnetic knife rack can be stuck to the fridge. A $2 plastic microwave splatter shield is worth the money https://www.target.com/p/nordic-ware-plate-cover/-/A-12259175?.
