What type of pump/filtration?

I want to have an above-ground pond/swimming area built for my three labs. Current pond (typical in-ground) is in disrepair and I'm not able to maintain it. I'm thinking of something basic - like attached photo. Would be approximately 2.5 feet deep by 8 to 10 feet in circumference. No idea what type of pump/filtration would be needed. I live in central NY state (harsh winters). (First photo is bad photo shop job - showing where pond would be placed (over current pond that needs to be filled in, leveled, etc). Appreciate suggestions.

Just me thinking out loud: any type of filtration, fountain plumbing and pump placed inside the pond would bound to be knocked around by 3 rambunctious labs frolicking in the water. Where would you place a pump and filter outside the pond? I think the dogs would love it though.

That's the problem - I'm totally inept at this type of thing. Trying to get advice to give to potential contractor/mason I've had a couple of guys tell me they can build it but they (as well as I) aren't sure about how/where to set up pump/filtration to keep water moving.
