small closet w/slanted ceiling

How would you feel about a closet like this in a home you’re considering purchasing? Is there anything that can be done to change this and fix the ceiling? Does this even look usable?

If there are adequate closets elsewhere in the house it may not be an issue, but if it's the only closet in the MB it would be a deterent for me. This type of closet could work in a child's room, but once the child is a teenager and has longer things to hang it's problematic. A custom closet solution instead just one hanging rod would make better use of the space. The only way to fix it is to take space away from the room so the wall can be moved out to gain more ceiling height, or pop out the roof in a dormer. Are you thinking of buying this house, or selling it?

Thank you for your response. Thinking of buying it and that closet is really my only concern

For me, a closet would never be a deal breaker for a house, but I live in a really competitive market.

I do too, especially in the town and price range I’m looking for..

If it's the only thing you don't like about the house in a difficult market, it sounds like a job for a custom closet solution. Depending on your requirements you may have to resign yourself to having some tall items in a different closet in another room. Is there room for an armoire or another closet to be built in the same room? Maybe two around a window to make a window seat?

LOL, seriously, don't let the closet stop you. We've had small reach-in closets in the last three places we lived. In our first two homes, he got the bedroom closet and I used the office closet, which was bigger. In our current home, we each use our office closets for our clothes, so basically our offices double as personal dressing rooms. I love it, and I don't have to deal with his clutter.

Or you can store your off-season clothes elsewhere.

I like @kandrewspa's idea of custom closet solutions. In a slanted closet like this, you could move the rod farther forward, and have built-in shelves behind the hanging clothes. Those shelves would be blocked by clothing, but could be used for things like shoes that you don't wear often, off-season clothing (folded up), or whatever else you don't need to access daily. That closet looks kind of deep and could store lots of stuff if it was redesigned cleverly.

Slant wall closets are best opened from the tall area so that you get two layers. In the back would be seasonal storage and in the front would be full height regular reach in closet. Is it possible to make this closet a reach in from the long tall wall rather then a walk in.

Better than wasted space! PLus it's clean and finished.

Yes to the closet. Look into your current closet and assess how many LONG items you own now. You might be surprised to see how most of your clothing could be hung on lower rods. Also, as suggested, if you buy this home, I would see what is behind the drywall at the low level. You could have custom storage, dressers, built into that area, shelving, etc. There is more space, I think, than you can imagine in that closet. A professional closet company could help you figure it out!

Make the doors go all the way across so you don’t have to walk in and raise the pole to a level that is more suitable for your wardrobe. If you change it to a reach-in you have options to add shelving etc. Not a deal breaker for me.

We had those type closets in out top floor in our 1 1/2 storey house they were great I did install one higher rod on the one wall for hanging long articles

You could add a Zebedee hanging rod at the end for longer items. This is what we had to do since we built a bedroom in our attic. https://zebedee.co
