I have a very odd situation and I would appreciate any feedback. I am combining my kitchen and dining room to make one big kitchen, and it will be open to my living room. My house was built in the 50s and has cove ceilings in the living room. Because we are removing the header between the living room, kitchen, and the hallway, the cove has to be removed in those areas as well so that the ceiling is flush with the ceiling in the living room. I have crown molding that is open at the top to the cove in my living room. My living room ceiling is also green, so that will have to carry over into the kitchen and the hallway so it doesn’t create any weird paint border, which I am fine with. My predicament is the crown molding. The black crown molding really ties in the green to the very light sandy color I have on the walls. So I’d like to do the black crown molding throughout the hallway and the kitchen because of this. My questions are one – should I do the same crown molding in my kitchen and hallway that I have in the living room and just sit it flush with the ceiling (rather than leaving it open like the living room is because of the cove)? And two - would it matter that that molding throughout the kitchen and hallway will sit higher than the molding in the living room, due to it not sitting flush with the ceiling because of the cove?
