That's a coincidence. I just wondered yesterday if I had missed seeing The Color of Wonderful and up it pops today. It's one of your pinks I like quite a bit. Pretty as always.........When I had SC Irish Illumination I had to move the pot all over the place to find a spot it did well in. It was picky. It's final place was in dappled shade under a Crape Myrtle facing west. The Arctic Blast winter of 20-21 did mine in and I didn't replace it............Maryl

The Color of Wonderful was aptly named. Cowgirl Spurs is looking good too. We really liked Spacecoast Irish Illumination, but decided to let it go in the name of downsizing (too many other yellows). It resented being moved and died. Up to that point it had done well. A nice group of rebloom!

Maryl and Nan - It sounds like SC Irish Illumination is finnicky. I'll just have to find the right place for it. I remember Maryl saying before that it faded in her heat. I do like the shade of yellow on it and the edge. Maybe I can find a place with some afternoon shade.

The Color of Wonderful does live up to its name. It's one of my most reliable pinks.

I like the bitone effect of Browns Ferry Debutante. Also that green throat. I don't like that it has Cerise Masterpiece as a parent, which didn't like it here. The Color of Wonderful was 10- 12 inches high this year, one of a few cultivars very short this year. I've discovered that I should avoid anything out of Leslie Renee, a terrible performer here. Color of W was usually more coral pink here. Perhaps changed after sun exposure.

It is exciting to see the first blooms of newcomers, but they can be deceptive both by impressing or by discouraging. One may get a nice flower and discover later that the plant habit leaves much to be desired. Or one may get a disppointing flower and later find that the plant delivers much better.

Mantis - Browns Ferry Debutante is not really a bitone. The lighter sepals are a side effect of my deer spray and heat. The Color of Wonderful is always more of rose pink in the early morning. I noticed yesterday after an afternoon of 92 degrees, it looked more coral pink at 6 p.m. It seldom looks coral pink to me, although that's what the descrption says on the registration. It's always a deep, rich color here whether rose or coral. I'm sorry it looks blah for you. TCOW has always been 25-27 inches tall here and never the registered 31 inches, but I have grubs eating its roots most year. Six inches tall is unacceptable. I wonder why it's so short for you.

I will give TCOW a few more years here. It has never had enough blooms or enough height to really evaluate color impact in the garden. I suspect that it is a tender dormant.

I love The Color of Wonderful and mine has never rebloomed. And neither has Laughing Skies!! They are both in partial shade so that may explain it. Last Chance is amazing in its late bloom. I wonder if your first bloom seedling will be darker next year-it is really pretty.

So nice to see your rebloom. I bet you are thrilled to see rebloom on your babies. It seems shade is playing into the performance of your daylilies……it is something I deal deal with as well. This season with a really hot spring the shade benefited many of my daylilies. So frustrating trying to figure this out with limited space.

Mantis - It sounds like your Color of Wonderful is not happy where it's planted. You should try moving it.

Kate - I've had The Color of Wonderful for eight years, and it's rebloomed every one of those years. I'm surprised you have it. I've never seen you post a photo of it. Does it struggle for you like it does Mantis? I'm always shocked when one that performs beautifully for me is a dud for others. I remember Nancy and Julia saying Integrated Logistics did not do well for them, and it was a superstar here until the past couple of years when its spot became too shaded. Laughing Skies has not rebloomed since the first couple of years I had it. I was surprised to see it blooming this month. Deer got most of the buds on it.

Sherry - It is nice to see so many of the seedlings reblooming, and it's especially gratifying to know they are rebloomers in the first or second year of bloom. I didn't know Gypsy Cats and Untamed Heart could rebloom until the ninth year they had bloomed here. Zuzu's Treasure didn't start reblooming until its seventh bloom season.

I have had The Color of Wonderful for at least 3 years. I looked back at my photos in those years and have to say I did not find one that I would have considered worthy of posting. Nor has it multiplied well. It may need to be moved but I liked the spot because it does get the partial shade and helps retain the color.

For having so much heat and lack of rain, your blooms are doing great. As always, you do take beautiful photos.

Kate - I'm surprised to read The Color of Wonderful does not multiply well. My plant has always multiplied well. In fact, I've traded and sold divisions of it twice. I hope it will look pretty enough for you next year to post a photo of it.

Julia - I think the rebloom I'm getting now was spurred on by a couple of rains we got in late July - one that was 1.75 inches and the other 2 inches. During August we've only gotten brief showers that have only brought a trace of rain in the rain guage.

When we heap praise on a daylily, we expect it will do well for others. That reminds me of Westbourne Good Old Days, which I urged everyone to add years ago. The only person who ever got close to the kind of results I got was Avedon in Texas. Eventually the grubs got to mine and it was nearly eaten to death. But it was spectacular the first five years I grew it.

The Color of Wonderful, Spacecoast Irish Illumination, Cowgirl Spurs and Browns Ferry Debutante are the ones I like the best in this very lovely group, Debra. Black Panther is already putting up from those fans you wrote about.

W Good Old Days does well here, but it is not a flower that likes afternoon sun.

Maybe I need to put my W. Good Old Days in afternoon shad. Although blooming isn't my problem with it. The 1st year it dwindled to 1 fan, the next it added a couple fans then dropped back to 1. This is its 4th year and it now has 4 fans, so I rather hesitate to move it. It bloomed nicely this year. Although not as well as W. Chip off the Old Block. Kay sent me that one and it started adding fans the minute I put it in the ground. It started blooming early this year and was a bud builder this year. I don't think it has rebloomed for me, but I would have to look back on my notes. Kay says it always does for her. It might have had a lot of instant rebloom though. It had a lot of scapes, but has a ton of fans and bloomed for 2 months. May still have a couple of buds.

I do like The Color of Wonderful. The White tooth seedling looks like a winner. I like Tides Roll In and your Cowgirl really well too.

Nancy and Mantis - I always grew W. Good Old Days in full sun. In fact it got just over 8 hours of sun a day. I don't remember it fading more than others here. I have it planted in part shade now, and it didn't bloom at all this year. It always multiplied too well here and was always nearly taking over half the raised bed I had it in. I sold and traded more than a dozen divisions over the years trying to keep it to a smaller clump.

Nancy - Thanks for your comments about Tides Roll In. No one else mentioned it, and I think it's such a pretty patterned cultivar. That White Tooth seedling may not stick around. It looked really bad in yesterday's 93-degree temps. The purple sib that is also reblooming held up to the heat and humidity.

Kay - I'm glad to read Black Panther is already doing so well for you!

I missed this post. I really love the Color of Wonderful and Last Chance for Romance. Browns Ferry Debutante is also quite pretty.
