Maybe a bit of an idea of how high the ceiling is might be helpful. Usually I tell people to add softness to the room but you have done that already so really not sure why it still echoes and for sure the space does not look empty . This is why I hate ceilings higher than 10' but builders and clients still insist on this look.

Not sure of the dimensions, but extends to the roof above the second story. I keep trying to add softness, but it still echoes.

I like it! But if you felt like it's not cozy enough, I say replace the coffee table and bar stools. To me, glass, chrome and vinyl don't = cozy.

It's a beautiful coffee table though, so I'd change just the stools first. Something with wood and/or fabric upholstery. If you still wanted to replace the coffee table, get something in wood, or a large ottoman with a tray.

If you do an ottoman, you will need small side tables for the couch. Or a tall narrow console behind it so you have somewhere to set drinks. Ditch the pouf or the room will be too cluttered.

A great go-to is adding way more indoor plants.

We located our music and tv in the family room which has a low ceiling and carpeting. But not everyone has that option.

You can hang decorative acoustic panels as well as using soft furnishings, carpet, drapes and plants. Do some homework on acoustic panels if you go that route, as there are best ways to place them.

I love your dining room. Maybe the coldness comes from the white built- ins that don't seem to be your style. There is really no way to soften them up, so maybe remove? At least the top cabinets? Other shoppers here could help with what to put in their place.

^^ooh yes, remove the uppers of the built ins. Replace with warm wood shelves on both sides of the FP and decorate them with books and collectibles.

For the lowers, you could keep the cabinets but replace the doors with something that fits your style better.

Paint all the white built-ins in the living room area and the mantel of the fireplace as well as the back of the kitchen bar. Select a calming color that relates to the draperies and couch color, not necessarily a match, but something that blends.

What if you remove the built in and place the TV to the left of the fireplace. Then turn the sofa to face the TV?

I disagree! The rooms are nice! But I think your counter stools are a tad too orange. The oranges you have lean a little rustier. I might also think about getting a different coffee table instead of a glass one. You have the room. Something like this, maybe to go with your modern vibe?

Love the colorful rugs. Looks pretty cozy to me. For sound issues I suggest.

• Triple lined drapes for sound absorption
• Upholstered round hassock/coffee table
• TV in place of the upper kitchen cabinets on the left
• Acoustic wall panels in place of the upper cabinets (and in right side shelf backs)
• Tapestry with acoustic panels behind it hung 5" above the mantel.
• Wood bar stools rather than metal to absorb, not reflect, sound

All these items will help with sound, as will a thicker pad underneath the rugs.
