Show me how you train your ramblers

(Please). I planted my first one last year not expecting too much because of my zone, but it turns out the rose has incredible vigor and was tip hardy in its first year so already getting quite big. It seems like every other day a new basal cane grows, and the days in between it grows a lateral shoot. I'm definitely not complaining but it's already getting a bit out of control and I'm not sure exactly how to manage it. I wanted it to spread nicely along a fence flanked by clematis but the rose is already eating up its clematis neighbors. Would you all please show me how you deal with your ramblers? Moving it is just not happening so there will be no tree to send it up.
Tell me why I just planted another rambler today from the same breeder? Glutton for punishment I guess, I wonder if it will be as vigorous as the first one.

@Mischievous Magpie (CO 5b) wow your choices of ramblers look amazing! I am adding them to my list.

Do you have a picture of the area? I find most ramblers very flexible so I usually just wrap them tightly around the fences instead of following the appropriate tying method for climbers. Then after the fence is sort of overgrown every year I cut off any excess crazy branches as needed. A lot less refined of a method compared with my climbers.

If the fence is a wooden fence I put up small nails at key places and tie my rambler to those places. If the canes are too long or you want to cover from top to bottom I make them into a spiral, tie it with twine and then place on fence. Look up some of Niff Barnes pictures on Instagram, she is a master working and training roses. Here is a Mac but she does it with ramblers also. Her art really changed how I approach my climbers.

How to deal woth your rembler largely depends on your fence material.

You mentioned not having any trees but if you need height and want to add some you can add some 4x4. They will provide heigh without creating shade and work great with a rambler. Of course that may not be something you want to do.

The fence is wooden but I attached a heavy duty metal grid with about an inch of space for airflow and ease of tying things in. The longest canes are out of the photo frame both to the left and right, to the left growing into/past a clem and to the right growing into Guirlande d'Amour. It's not HUGE or anything, maybe 4-5 feet tall and the longest canes not shown go to about 6-7 feet, but it's a baby rose throwing up loads on canes and I can see it's going to be too big for how close I planted it to other things 😬 it was very very small at the beginning of this season, maybe 2 short, thin canes, so it's grown a lot in the last few months.

Magpie thank you! Your rose looks great. The metal grid is definitely a perfect way of having all the correct anchor points for roses. I wouldn’t worry about space. I have found that roses growing a bit crowded look spectacular. I would wait until very late winter to see what kind of winter loss you are dealing with (hopefully minimal). Then get your leafless canes and work them to your liking. I find working with ramblers impossible once they are fully leaf out. I can’t wait to see how those beauties do for you.
