Fig trees for dining room?

I’m trying to finish my DR. I was thinking of a 2 fig trees on each side of the gallery wall to break up and some green with nice white planters. What do you think? And I have 9ft ceilings. Is 7ft trees to tall. Should I get shorter and prop up in planter. Open to suggestions.

Beautiful room! I would only do one, on the left side of the gallery wall. Two would be too much I think.

    Totally agree with bichonbabe.

I think one olive tree would look great.

IMO no fake plants or flowers in any space in a home. I think you have avery formal DR with a very informal gallery wall not working in my brain. I really dislike family photos in public spaces and in this type DR where is the buffet which IMO should be there

I think your photo wall is well-done and beautiful. If Patricia comes to visit, just drape a sheet over them so she won’t be put out.

I think your room is lovely, and I don't agree that family photos should not be in "public" spaces in a home...MY home is not a public space; it is a private space that, on occasion, welcomes guests who are not family. If they don't like seeing photos of my family, then that is just too bad! This is the dining room of your family in your private home, it is not a hotel lobby or restaurant DR.

I do agree that one large, real plant would look nice in the left corner (near what appears to be a window). The other corner is not deep enough.

Not a fan of fake plants. Sometimes tiny ones that are displayed far from the eye are passable, but large ones that you can view at eye level are a no for me.

Instead, I would put a low, wide table with a limited amount of tasteful decor on top. Rearrange the photo wall to accomodate this (perhaps remove two).

Or have a custom buffet cabinet built, something that conceals the heater but allows the heat to flow freely from it.

There doesn't seem to be enough light on that wall for real plants, so I would skip them. Unless perhaps that's a window peeking from the left? In which case, I'd go for a tree-let on the left of the gallery. Real, not fake: something that adds liveliness to a room.

You might consider a corner cupboard or something in the right corner.

The decorative entry to the room stands on its own and doesn't need a tree near it. The gallery is nicely done, but I would prefer fine art and using the gallery photos in a family room where guests would be comfortable approaching them to enjoy the details up close. With the right art piece, only a short plant in a pot would be necessary.

Nothing against family photo galleries in a kitchen, up a stair, in your family room........NOT in this particular dining room.

Find a generously sized piece of art you love ( some color would be nice, nothing wrong with neutral but..... ) a long shallow console below that art, and if you want a fig in one corner so be it. Big fat NO to two of them, especially when faux.

The wall doesn't need anything else, but if wanting to add, suggest near window only. You mentioned fig, but show an olive; whatever type you decide, quality and volume are extremely important, as well as proportions of tree and container.

    I love family photos!
    But not in this space.
I would have done art, but this is your dining room and your home, decorate with what you love.
One tree is all you need.

If you’re happy with your photos, I hope you don’t take them down because strangers told you to (and you didn’t ask about that). There are no decor rules against having photos in a dining room … it’s just a quirk of Houzz and gets repeated ad nauseam.

They look wonderful and fit the style of the room very well. It’s a home to live in and enjoy, not a model home or museum. And they actually do look like art themselves — one of the best looking and sophisticated photo displays I’ve seen on these boards.

I’d like to hear the reason why anyone thinks another type of art would be better in this particular room.

Thank you everyone!!! I love art in DR. But I have no pics of my family around my house. And feel in DR is where we all eat and celebrate. And everyone comes over and loves looking at pics & memories on my wall. This is why I did it. I’m going to do 1 large olive tree (I don’t know why I put fig). I will send pics and keep you posted!!! Thanks for all the tips I appreciate it

SO agree with you on the photos @Ellen Barbarino - We have a gallery wall in our DR and guests always look at the photos (someone can usually spot my husbands nose on the old army sargeant) - it is fun and intimate - i think sometimes spaces can feel too impersonal or staged

Ellen, I enjoyed hearing about why you chose to have the family pictures on your dining room wall. Normally I would be in the group saying they don't belong there, but if this is the best place for them in your house, I am all for it. It sounds like it works for you. You made me look at things differently, which is why I like reading this forum.
