Sorry, what paneling are you referring to?

In the photo where you can see the toilet there is wood paneling around the opening into the bathroom. It runs into the painted wall and we want to make that entire wall seamless.

The only picture I see posted is the room with your desk by the window. Are there pix missing?

Are the other walls drywall? If so, I would remove the bathroom doorway paneling and drywall to match the other.

Yes they are drywall, but we don’t think there is enough depth behind the paneling to add drywall. My husband thinks it would not be flush to the other drywall.

Ah! Ok. I'm looking at this via my desktop. Somehow I guess it's showing up in the app but not the web site. Anywho, I think I would remove the paneling around the door and simply match the door/window casing that you have elsewhere in your home. Pick a brighter color to paint the walls--maybe even white-- and get a nice area rug to warm up the space. Add some nice roman shades with pretty fabric or woven wood and you're good to go.

Obviously the first choice would be to remove that odd paneling near the bathroom and dry wall. Second choice is paint the paneling to match whatever wall color you choose. Will you creat a similar trim around the closet doors? Consider painting the trim in a slightly glossier version of the wall paint.

If you paint it, here's the best practice. Clean with TSP (tri-sodium phosphate,) rinse, let dry, lightly sand, tack off sanding dust, prime with 2 coats KILZ or Zinzer, paint with 2 coats of your color.
