Colonial Farmhouse - need help with siding type and color!

Hi everyone - We're building a new home and struggling with siding colors! As you can see, it has a black roof and will have a black metal roof over the front porch as well as an eyebrow roof over the garage. Windows are white with white trim. We are going with vinyl siding as hardieboard is just not in our budget! My husband is very against white siding so we're considering the following options:

1. Bone/off-white color - mix of 7" horizontal and board and batten (thinking the full center piece that juts out will be board and batten as well as the garage and gables, with the rest horizontal).

2. Light grey color "Greystone" - same idea as above

3. Mixed colors: White board and batten in the center and then greystone color on the sides and garage (similar use of both horizontal and vertical). The center piece sticks out 2 feet so I think this may look cool but not sure if its too modern or too much.

Would love any and all thoughts and suggestions!!! Thank you!

Take a look at historic color pallets. Ben Moore paints has a well researched collection. I think the bone won’t give much contrast

I sure think a more attractive cover over the netry would be good . That looks like an after thought and not a good one either . Post a pic of the stone being planned and also where it is going on the house . BTW double iwindows should not have shutters ever and theones you show are way too small anyway. Most colonial farmhouse had porches not just a weird portico type for the entry so maybe explain the reason for no prorch on this particular house.

We don't have any stone being planned (greystone was a color I referenced which is really a light grey) and we are not doing shutters. Thanks. Entry roof will not change unfortunately! :(

Just my opinion, but having multiple materials going multiple directions on the front of the house is being done everywhere at the moment, especially in big (cheaper) developments. It is currently hot but will look dated in just a few years. If it were me, I would do something classic like horizontal siding all in one classic color. If you pick blue, it will look trendy now and dated soon. Choosing a pale green or yellow, or a barn red, with white trim will look classic and you won't have to redo. Just my two cents.

I agree with Emily L - go classic and you will not regret it. White, yellow - red is a classic in certain regions like the north east and I like it a lot. Not sure I agree with green being a classic. The trend now of dark colors and multi colors will be sure to grow old and outdated fairly quickly. Regardless of whether a forever home or not, go classic.

Nice house! I like the suggestion above of horizontal lap siding everywhere. What about pale green with white trim and a white door?

This is what I had in mind for green.

This one sort of has your center bump out going on.

The very best thing to notice about these houses is the chunky white trim and porch columns. Of course these are old, gorgeous houses.

But the point is: If you use thin, cheaper trim, or too-small porch columns, it won't look right or is just a bit boring:
