Hi DG!

'Garden' for me is veggies, and mine is still a mess of weeds/grasses, waiting for me to clean it up and plant my cool weather crops. It's been raining daily, so I have a good excuse.

I have started tomatoes - bought the seeds on Amazon, and hoping they come true, because I cannot get my favorite variety (Tomande) any more - all the seed companies no longer have it. They've sprouted, but are very stringy right now, since I haven't been able to put them out in the sun yet.

Our yard is a jungly mess as well, since it's been way too hot to go out there and labor. I have pots and pots of things that need to go in the ground yesterday.

This has been a tough hot and dry year. So thankful the rains have finally come so I can take a break. I let the sweet potatoes take over one raised bed and planted grains of paradise, african potato mint and guinea arrowroot (which is supposed to repel nematodes in the other beds. Been trialing cedar bay cherries and some other fruit to see how it grows. Seems like its getting more difficult to find fruit that like my area. Not enough chill hiurs for some, too cool for others. Not throwing any vegetation out, it is all being used for mulch.

DG, I think this dry and hot summer has been especially hard on our gardens. Just keeping them watered was exhausting. Lets hope the fall will be kinder to us.

Carol, I know what you mean. I have pots of fruit trees that I keep potting up until I find that perfect spot and they just need to get into the ground! And the heat this year has made it almost impossible to work. On the bright side I found a blueberry that doesn't need chill hours so decided to try them and see. Hope springs eternal :)

Carol, I'm going to try some greens this fall, but I don't have enough sun for much else. I had a community garden bed, but I guess I wasn't working on cleaning and planting fast enough for them, and they kept bugging me about it, so I just gave it up. I don't have time for control freaks in my life

jstropic Well, we're getting the rain now, at least here in Gainesville. Like every year, when the rain comes, I'm both happy and aggravated. We Florida gardeners are a strange lot. We pray for rain, then curse it. In the summer, we can't wait for fall and in winter, we can't wait for spring. But through it all, we get to garden year-around, so not so bad.
