coreopsis turning brown and dying

My newly planted coreopsis is turning brown/black and dying one by one.
They were planted by our landscaping company.

We have clay soil but added compost when planting them.
I’ve been checking the soil moisture daily and they’ve never dried out.
They haven’t been watered (other than rain) since planting, which was a month ago.

Could they be overwatered?
