Do an alcove tub 32" wide and then see if you have space for a shower IMO do an alcove tub/ shower the tub can be a nice deep soaker andthe shower takes up no extra space . Then a bit larger vanity

The short answers to your questions are no and no. You can't put 2 pounds of stuff into a 1 pound bag. 28" clearance is totally inadequate and probably doesn't meet code. Start by swapping the toilet and the shower and see if that helps.

28" would meet code barely in my location for fixture to obstruction clearance but no, you are creating a very uncomfortable bathroom with a huge tub and the bare minimum space to squeeze through to access it.

I think the alcove shower combo is probably best. The only other option is to put the tub and shower next to each other. I think it might look funny though? Any thoughts? My husband says it’s fine, I think there isn’t enough room for a separate shower IMO. Also this option the bathroom door opens too close to toilet. He says the door can open out if needed. That just seems weird to me though. Trying to convince him of tub/ shower combo.

Build an addition for tubzilla. It completely overpowers anything but a 500 square foot bathroom.
