Home is already beautiful, but what color window boxes would you add?

Where would you put window boxes? Your ground level windows go almost to the ground. It’s a beautiful house; maybe changing the trim color and front door, and some color in the landscaping would give it a bit more contrast.

I voted nay. I don’t think they’d enhance your house, rather look cluttered.

I don’t see your house as needing anything — I really like the color scheme and landscaping.

The only thing I might change is getting rid of the grass here and planting something else:

And expand the bed on the right (bringing it down to the sidewalk), also eliminating the little section of grass:

I also voted “no.” The volume of soil in window boxes is small and in a hot climate it seems like it would be a struggle to keep them sufficiently watered. You could run drip lines to them, but you would have some visible tubing. Then you have the drainage from watering window boxes which could potentially run down the sides of your house. Instead, I think you could spice up your landscaping by leaning more into architectural plants like agaves. And the small planters on metal legs on either side of the front door could be changed out to much larger pots with striking plantings.

Absolutely not in my opinion to the window boxes.

I voted no because I don't think window boxes are right for the architecture of the house. It's not a little cottage. Instead, I'd recommend improving the landscaping around the windows to add some color and interest. Right now the dark plants add nice contrast, but they aren't very exciting on their own. Look for some colorful flowers to go in front of the dark plants maybe.

Thank you to each of you for your comments! I have decided against the window boxes based on the input. I never had any particular desire for the boxes. I simply thought I needed a bit more.

I take each of your suggestions to heart. Unfortunately, I am not able to get rid of the grass as it is a requirement of the HOA. The use of huge pots I am able to do. Now I am on the hunt for huge, beautiful pots.

Decorative tile on the risers could add a bit of personality and interest.

I don’t think the facade needs anything else adding. In fact I'd get rid of the little lamps. There’s already too much going on imo.

Window boxes are kinda hard to maintain and most often present a moisture problem.
