New bathtub has bump?

I’m in the middle of remodeling my house and my contractor and tilers installed a bathtub and the surrounding tiles. Problem is a few days later I noticed a bump on the back of the tub. After pointing this out to my contracter he said it wasn’t his fault (which I agree- I think it’s a manufacturing defect) and said he didn’t notice it earlier, but he could rip it out and out and replace it. However, that would mess up some of the tiles and I’m afraid it won’t look good. So I need to decide between replacing new tub or living with it? Thoughts please? (sorry for lighting- I don’t have lights installed yet)

I call bullsh*t on the tile, unless he makes no real effort. I suspect he is just hoping you won’t insist on getting it corrected. And I feel for him, I do. Contractors don‘t have an easy life these days But they had to have seen that lump. Or certainly should have. They should never have installed it unless you approved it. If you feel charitable, ask him what labor costs will be to swap it out and then — if it sounds reasonable — offer to split it with him.

Not sure how rhe installer missed that — looks pretty obvious. Did he suppy the tub? If so, then it seems to me that it IS his problem. I would have the tub replaced because we are a family of bath takers and that lump would be uncomfortable, but YMMV. The tile will be fine and easily repaired.

That bump would bother me; I would want that tub replaced. When I had my kitchen and bathrooms renovated, I had the luxury of working from home. Both myself, husband, and our fabulous carpenter, inspected all items thoroughly, prior to installation. I am sorry this happened to you.

Yeah definitely lesson learned to inspect all items closely before installation. Yes, he supplied the tub. So you think you won’t be able to tell that a few rows of tile got replaced? I asked my contractor this and he acted like I would be able to notice.

Ok that’s good to know it can be done! It seemed like he was trying to get me to not do it. When i pointed out the defect to him he acted like he couldn’t see it so that annoyed me. Just saw him now and I told him we need it replaced. He didn’t act too annoyed about it, so that’s good.

Is this also a shower or is it a tub only? Repair gets tougher if it is a shower as you are looking at attempting to repair the waterproofing system in addition to tiling.

It is shower/tub combo. The contractor said he thinks in order to remove the tub they'll need to remove 1 row of tiles around the tub and then maybe 3 rows on the end. Good to know about the waterproofing system- I'll double check about that to make sure we won't have problems.
