I like your new mirrors.

Ignoring the game boxes under the lamps, and the actual lamps, but that's 31" tall and thinner. I'm having a hard time imagining it too- may go to the store And pick some up to try.

The side tables are here- now Travis who said there was too much furniture can really squirm :). I do like having space for more light, and it feels more balanced next to the couch. Also makes a nice home for the accessories


Windows have nice white wood blinds on them, but I agree they need drapes to soften the space.

GREAT how tables and lamps can cozy up a room this way. So just have to ask....how are you feeling with the two lamps on the side tables and not on the cabinet, like in the last pic? Would two lamps up there just be toooo much now???

I am just not sure how I feel about the chairs not under the mirrors.....I think someone else mentioned this. For some reason, I had them pictured there. Are they too off centered with the couch to put over on that wall??? I just feel like if something is going to block that door way, it should be the couch and just one big piece instead of the chairs lined up doing it......and I did like the chairs by the windows with the table between them..........would the new tables fit if the couch moved opposite????? Sorry!

I like the mirrors, but think four are too many on that wall. Could you perhaps try 3 and put the 1 on the blank wall beside it.

I'm not sure about lamps in general now! I really did like the buffet, art & lamps together, and without anything (esp a frame), the art feels like it's floating. not sure that I need a lamp on each side table though - maybe the one between the couch & buffet isn't necessary?

thinking a floor lamp for next to the mirror wall (4 mirrors - if I took them down to just have 3, i'd have to patch & paint the whole wall, it was horrid getting them up!!), and then a plant in the corner between the buffet and dining room

mirrors: the 4 there look great and 3 would look too skimpy.

furniture: I think it is great like it is now, but if you want to try the chairs under the mirrors, I think it is worth a try. The couch would have to be moved down, centered under the left window. We'd have to play with the extra. chair. It would have to go down on the buffet end. My fear is that you would walk into the room and meet a coffee table.

buffet lamps: in the current arrangement, I don't think the buffet lamps would be too much at all. They need to be tall and narrow, and the shades need to be narrow also. As an alternative, you can buy tochiere lamps, as in first photo. Photos are for ideas, not to depict your style.

By the way, Jennifer, your room is really looking awesome and coming together, a testament to your hard work and willingness to consider the numerous suggestions!

PS: your clock looks small and lonely there and is hung too high. You don't like spackling and painting, so let's wait.....I am thinking it might work between the windows (after drapes go up).

I really think how you had it before your last rearranging is best. The mirrors look fine with nothing under them, because of the chair rail.

My only suggestion is to remove the extra chair. If you have a smaller chair somewhere in your house (something like an occasional chair that is unique, you could swap it out for the striped, upholstered one. Or, put nothing there.

It feels more open with furniture against both walls, but also results in half the room being unused if I keep the chairs against the coffee table

I could try it like the old owners had it (basically how I started though, see the first picture!) and just move the chairs up to the coffee table when we're playing games.

I would keep it like you have had it for awhile, but turn the chairs at angles. I would like to see a round coffee table.

However, you can sure go ahead and try it the other ways.

If you try it like you had it, pull the chairs closer to the couch. Don't worry about the buffet. We can move that if we have to, once furniture is set.

Here it is! Moved the chairs and now the room feels. Totally used, no husband complaints of floating furniture, and a home for my blue table!

Glad you like it. Striped chair needs to be moved back and more angled. It can be sort of "off on its own".

I would not put that lamp in front of the mirrors. Use a shorter lamp. I would put the 2 matching lamps on the tables beside the couch.

You really need 2 buffet lamps on the buffet to make it look good.

Yeah, the lamps I had there found a happy home in another room, but after seeing the buffet with two lamps am still leaning towards that

I would put table lamps on either side of the couch. A floor lamp on the side by the buffet will be too close to the buffet lamp.

Make sure you buy really tall, narrow buffet lamps, so they look decidedly different from the table lamps and they draw the eye up around your buffet.

An alternate idea: use 2 floor lamps by the buffet/no lamp on the right side of the couch/floor lamp on left side of couch. For blue table, maybe a small table lamp.

Ok, so it's been a while, but here is where I ended up. Just need a rug and window treatments, and ill call it a success!

The chairs have been slid in for several game nights, and it's turned into one if my favorite reading spots (if just to have a reason to use it :)

-have you tried the striped chair by the buffet. Then the 2 white chairs would be toward the hall end.

-globe and hourglass---it just seems like they belong on a shelf---seem to be dwarfed by the chair rail and mirrors above them. They are just not working for me there.

For table, you could try something that connects the table to the mirrors. See photo below. Something tall, but it would have to be narrow. It is going to be challenging, because the table is small. Do you have something around the house you can try? A couple of pillar candles?

Drape ideas. I think a good choice would be something like in the first photo, with a white background and maybe a trellis yellow pattern.

For curtains, with the yellow walls, are you thinking yellow or yellow accent would be best? I was wondering about a white/ivory curtain with a grey or blue accent

I understand about ordering online. Here is what you can do, though. Do you have a Home Decorators in your area? You can order online and return it at the store if you don't like it.

Same at Target. They have a lot of rugs online and may even have this one. Otherwise, at least you have an idea of what you may want.

Gray in drapes? I think that would look great, but is there gray in the room?

Yellow drapes----drapes the same color as wall paint tend to give a more formal feel. Contrasting to wall paint----more informal feel.

I think it might be fun to buy something with a yellow pattern in it. What length do you need if you hang them high (which you should)?

The couch is a grey-ish blue, I was thinking curtains a darker shade to bring some contrast. My other thought was heavy ivory. Long term thinking, eventually i'd like to paint and get rid of the yellow all together.

Yes, the room is very yellow. You want cohesiveness in your home. So, you can paint all room pastels, or jewel tones, or light neutrals.

So, what would you describe how you want your rooms? Go in that direction.

For now, I think you can't go wrong with the ivory drapes. They will go with anything down the line. You could go with grayish blue, but then it will be hard to match the couch. If you go with gray, then you really need to add some gray to the room, which is not bad, just that you would need to do it.

So, in conclusion, I think you need to get an overall view of how you see your rooms painted and then just sort of ignore the yellow for now, as you pick new items (like drapes).

Yup, I think i'll go with Ivory curtains, they'll work now & later, and tie in with the ivory chairs, The yellow is here for now & I think it looks fine, but one day it'll become a grey/silver/blue room

Reason: it fits in with your goal of future grey/silver room. It also fits in with your room now and pulls in the art and the couch. I like the large pattern on it. I think the others are too brown.
