Framing for kitchen peninsula

I was considering shiplap for my peninsula but decided to nix that (a decision that I’m sure you all will agree with lol). I’d still like to give this peninsula some character and cover up that terrible seam (or whatever you call it). So I’m thinking about some simple trim instead, similar to what’s in the picture. Two pics of my kitchen are attached — it’s a super basic builder-grade early 2000s kitchen (and please ignore the paint I’ve been experimenting with; I’m not using any of those colors anyway). Here’s my dilemma though, how should I handle the transition between the existing baseboard and the cabinet trim? I’d love to keep it clean and simple but am worried that style (like the attached pic) will look bad with the baseboard since they will be connected. Any ideas? I haven’t seen any pictures of how this type of transition would look.
