I have an 88" Dean sofa from Room and Board. I think I bought it in 2015 along with two Andre chairs. The sofa has no wear at all (pets in the house too) and the cushions are still firm. I replaced one seat cushion insert in the chair I sit in daily in 2020. I've also bought the Jennings bed (metal) sight unseen in 2020 since it wasn't in the store closest to me (DC). R&B has a great delivery service too.

Can you tell us what state your in? there are some great stores here in Florida but what good are they if youre in california?

We bought a leather sofa and a velvet English arm sofa from Cococo home based out of NC - had a terrific experience, you can customize length, depth depth, fabric/leather - my dog loves the leather couch lol — i have several (non upholstered) pieces from Room and Board and they’re always fantastic to work with so i would check there also

i really do not want to buy a sofa sight unseen, i need to make sure its comfy! i just feel like every time i find a place forums say the store is trash. i dont need a 30 year sofa, but a 10-15 year sofa would be great

You could hire a designer or decorator that has access to trade-only sources for a custom sofa. An added bonus is that you'll get advice on pulling the whole room together.

Bad reviews are everywhere. Customers are more inclined to write negative reviews than positive ones. This is pure psychology.

I think the mainstream brands (West Elm, RH, PB, et.al) have gone the way of so many others-they may have started out well in good quality, but over time the quality to value ratio has declined. You’re probably just paying for the name.

I’m finding it harder and harder to find what you’re after: something between the shoddy, landfill-bound-within-5-years crap and the heirloom quality sofas that easily cross a $10k budget.

I bought two sofas at a store in Brielle NJ. They cost about $2,300 each in 2017. They are made by Masterfield furniture company in North Carolina, USA! Many fabrics and options to choose from. I chose attatched pillow back, rounded arm, no skirt and medium brown stained wooden feet. The fabric is a neutral beige, tweed

They are five years old, very comfortable and look like new. My friend has a Masterfield sofa that is 20 years old The floral fabric is outdated, but the sofa is comfortable and in good condition. I have a Taylor King sofa on order from https://www.furniturelandsouth.com. Some other brands I considered were King Hickory, Wesley Hall, and Hickory White. I was looking for furniture made in the US with good quality construction. I considered Crate & Barrel and Room & Board, but felt like their quality was not as good and the cost was not that different. I also considered Maiden Home, which seemed very affordable for the construction, but the sizes and style weren't quite what I wanted. There is a good thread on this site from people who have experience with Maiden Home.

I actually did an Article sofa and was surprised by how nice it was.

The other option is to find an older sofa (when they were made really well) and have it custom upholstered. I did that w/my original sofa bought in 04? 10 years later I had it recovered. it's still going strong. it was custom built originally.

Also check on country of origin. anything made in china I would pass on.

Don’t stop at reviews only as both positives and negatives are there. Head out and check products in person as well. Consider buying US-made furniture from Bergen Furniture and Design.

You must go and sit on anything that you decide to buy. I feel sorry for those who have purchased furniture based on looks, alone, and then discovered how uncomfortable, big or small, or badly made it is only on delivery. What “fits” one person won’t necessarily “fit” another. No matter the recommendation…check it out first, in person!

I agree with Cisco furniture. We bought a velvet sofa from them via a Boston store that carries several brands. Comfortable and will last us years.

I have a Wesley Hall sofa and would buy another. They have a good website. Also, I have no hesitation buying something sight unseen from a place that goes into specifics on the construction. I prefer certain types of foam wrapped down cushions, for instance.
