I think they look great together. Don't be in a hurry to replace things you love.

What is the pendant made of? IMO they do not work together but maybe try the pendant in another space and do a much simpler pendat over the table . You do know you can add a plug to the pendant and even use it over a night table in a bedroom many places where it can be the star on its own. I think a nice clear glass linear fixture might be a be a great choice .

Thank you! Patricia, the pendant is a basket weave albeit, loosely woven. Purchased on sale several years ago from CB2 when they were reasonably priced. I thought of raising it. You are probably right about a simpler pendant. Could we put it over the island?

I think it works well in room, is unique and you mentioned you like it. The only time it takes away from the art is when standing exactly opposite and raising won’t look as balanced over table.

Marla, I think your answer is in title of your post - “…my fave pendant lamp”. Keep it! It’s light & airy & I don’t think detracts from space. I also don’t think it would fit or function well over your island. Your abstract painting is marvelous & attention getting. What I would do is remove the 2 smaller pieces from the adjacent walls & find a new location for them. IMO, they definitely distract & detract from what should be the star of that wall. They have 2 different frame styles & image styles too. Maybe the white framed one can be a companion to the white framed piece between windows at end of room? I’ve learned that not every empty space must have something - the eyes need a place to rest.

I don't like it with the painting and think your instinct is right - it does compete. You've invested money in a custom painting and have a nice table and beautiful chairs. A different light would really elevate the space. It looks like an afterthought where as the rest of your dining and living space seem very intentional.

I don't think it will do you any favors as an island light - not enough illumination and what is there now look right.

Here are a few ideas. I don't love them or think they are quite right, but it would be great to get some black and wood in the light, or keep with your woven aesthetic.

I would do something much more open and simple so it doesnt block the view of the art.

Does it look bad? not at all. is there something better in that spot ? Possibly, it depends on what you like.

Another vote for like it. Something else would look good, too, but for me if you love it that is enough. I like the natural texture of it.

You might want to consider swapping the dining fixture with the island fixture.
