Lone Star for Haley

A dear friend asked me to make a quilt for her granddaughter who was turning 16. Haley had picked a pattern she liked ... a Lone Star! Well, I wasn't sure I could do it so I got a pattern and did a test center before I said okay. For her birthday in June, she gave her colored pencils and the blank pattern to color in and decide what she wanted, then they went shopping. She picked out the colors and placement for the center star and first three borders. After that, it was up to me. I added the pillow tuck with stars and tried rounded corners for the first time. Things went well until I did the most unforgiveable mistake - I didn't prewash the fabrics! Quilt was finished and I tossed it in the wash ... some of the red and brown left spots. I filled the bath tub with hot, hot water and Dawn dish soap and let it soak about 12+ hours. Thankfully, the spots came out, but it isn't as vibrant as it was before the mistake. Rewashed in COLD water and it's done. It's a double bed size (on a queen in the picture). I had a little extra fabric so I made a couple pillow cases for her, too.
