I would hold off on any accessories until the main things are taken care of...

Sometimes accessories are the way to bring fun colors into the space - yellows and reds or greens etc.

Show us pics. For now, I'd leave all that decor in a box for possible return and just focus on the paint color first.

Gray should work with what you are wanting, however, you need to be aware, than if you use gray, then add some color. Black and white and gray, go well together, but, make for a boring room, unless you add some bright access colors.

It could have turned out a good combination of white and gray, for example, we did similar project!

But for a better understanding of the situation as a whole, we would like to see the photos.

It would be helpful to know what your floors look like and how much light this room gets. Do you mean the walls in the rooms adjacent are painted gray, or are your floors gray? Here are some examples of directions to go with dark counters. Unless you have furniture that will go with gray walls or are buying all new, is it possible you will be painting those rooms? Usually you paint to go with the contents of the room, not visa versa. So unless you like gray, don't let it drive the bus. Even if you don't do all the work at once, it helps to have an overall plan so you know where you're going with everything.

Helen, definitely we need photos. And how about identifying the name of the gray? There are grays and there are grays, and believe or not, there are more than 50.

Then, tell us about the natural light that comes into the kitchen. From what direction...north, south, west, east...it really makes a huge difference.

For instance, south light, which is with you most of the day, a blue will work. And, as the sun moves around to west, blue still works. Because blue tones down yellow sunlight.
