I posted this same question about five months ago. Here is the discussion. As an update, my son ended up renting an apartment in the same vintage building as his brother. He does have to go outside and down 3.5 flights of stairs to the laundry room, with nice SpeedQueens, although if it is bad weather he can go through his brother’s apartment, which has a back door to an enclosed stair to the laundry.

If you lived in Arizona, I’d say you don’t even need a dryer. I spent a couple of summers there and could hang even freshly-washed towels outside and they’d be dry in under two hours, everything else dried in under an hour!

My son has one in his condo in Chicago. Top of the line LG ventless unit. HORRIBLE. The wash/dry cycle takes anywhere from 4-6 hours. While in the wash cycle, it sounds like a military jet is trying to land in the kitchen. And the clothes. Never. Dry. You have to hang them after they come out. It’s not even good for a quick refresh, the minimum cycles take hours. He actually walks past it to take his laundry down two flights of outside stairs in the Chicago winter to do his laundry in the basement.
