For a living room, you add length and width of room and convert that number to inches. Your room can handle a 37" light. That would be one huge light in the room and it is why what is there now looks so dinky.

Consider having it replaced with a recessed light you could aim at the wall over the couch. Great place to highlight a large piece of art.

Meantime, spend the money on floor lamps with trays.

Another thought...center the rug in the space and put the front feet of sofas on it.

I haven’t read through all of the responses, sorry if this was discussed — would it be possible to do away with a light in the middle and add recessed lights around the room?

My DH is an electrician and does this very thing often. It’s not a big deal at all.

Can you take a picture from the doorway by the playhouse and show us the view of the kitchen and breakfast room from the living room? And what is behind this room? An entry with lights?

Here's a fancy clover fixture, and a budget friendly one.

this one below is brass, but I love how it has kind of a "deeper" shape to the clover petals, if that makes any sense. (Personally, I'm comfortable mixing metals, but I know not everyone is.)

One other thing- don't worry about the kids toys. They are minimal, and easy to put away if you want to have people over.

I really like the shape of the deeper clove petals as well, it actually has a similar shape as my dining room brass chandelier(with tiny crystals :) which is closer to my front entrance. i just added this one to my cart.

And yes, I do love our new space . We didn’t get any new furniture after we moved so it feels like the couches are a bit small for this room or too dark or both not sure. Not having curtains but plantations (which we realiy like the practicality) I think took a little warmth away from this room. We spend the majority of time in here so is one I want to feel more homey. I’m trying to figure out how. I am missing some decor but I wanted to wait to see what kind of couch or couches we get. I’m wondering if larger couches will help and I started poking at the idea of Plantstion and curtains. Didn’t care for it at first but maybe not so bad.

Two floor lamps and put them on either side of the wall sofa (which should be centered on the wall now that you centered the rug).

I would find a large ottoman (kid friendly) to anchor your room. Large art for long wall over sofa. Arc lamp to bring additional layer of lighting, a cool ceiling fixture. A raised pot for your fiddle leaf fig to raise it up and flank other side with another tall plant. This will balance your fireplace wall. A kid proof sea grass tray on ottoman very nice way to add warmth. Here is mock up and idea board.

I love this ottoman for you. It’s large and fabric is durable with subtle pattern for hiding any opps things.

I like the Ashfield Graphite fabric. I would get a sample of the fabric. Some fabric stores make furniture and usually less expensive. By having a sample of the fabric, they can probably source it for you and get close. A wonderful play table for kiddos.

You can also get puzzle boards that could set on a ottoman for a play surface too.

I posted a G6 but reading the actual spec it says G9. So you have to buy the Dimmable G9s. So those might make this fixture more expensive adding both together. 🙃

Still a pretty good deal for a 40” wide cool chandelier.

@Flo Mangan, Thank you so much for your feedback! I think it is a great price, we were concerned though about it not being flush. I was looking around some more. Who knew how tough it would be to find something that is somewhat flush, pretty but that would go with the breakfast chandelier.. So I was actually thinking of looking at this differently. I am trying to dress these 3 areas up in terms of fixtures and I think I can go simpler in living room, since I have 4 dimmable lights there, lighting is not a concern. I think if I replace the pendants in kitchen with something nicer, that could still go with breakfast chandelier and less bland I could go simple in the living room like with the clover. This one 18":

The kitchen pendants I currently have are 12". The breakfast chandelier is around 33/34". I was trying not to overpower the breakfast chandelier by having big pendants but current ones to me look too small. My island is navy blue. I was looking at this one 16" W:

OK. I Found sone options for you. #1 your family room light is most important. There are many good options. Just keep height of fixture around 24” and width can be as big as 30”. This sketch shows how to think of the measurements. Your “line of sight from sofa to TV should be fine. To test this, take a string or ribbon and one person hold sitting on sofa at eye level then pull to center of your TV. SO a pretty chandelier is #1 priority from my point of view. I don’t think your new options offer much change from what you have. But I found one that has slightly muted glass (stays looking cleaner longer) but if budget allows, I would do ones with more personality over your island. For example here is a pendant that speaks to your breakfast area and has personality.

Or a drum style would work in family room and a distorted glass pendant. So what direction do you want to take?

No to a hanging fixture there, and the clear pendants looks just like the ones that are there. Also is there not something to be said for going too matchy matchy? just my 2 cents, Flo is really very good at what she does.

Hello! @Flo Mangan thank you for spending time on this! I like the crystal one for the living room, actually the one on the bottom right i think will go as well since our crystals are also small. The crystal pendants go nicely and are pretty but I think might be small on top of the island like the ones i have now feel that way since the space is wide open from living room to kitchen. The island is 7 ft. Do you think this size (23 1/2) chandelier could go with one of the pendants i was looking at above?

With a 7’ island (average size) clear glass pendants just kinda disappear. They don’t compliment the other fixtures. So I think you need something more distinctive over your island. And larger too. This one would look fantastic and great price. Speaks to both living room one and breakfast, is larger and has a little bling. Perfect.

Funny, I actually purchased the black one with crystals before installing these but unfounfortunately i did not love them in person :( But I did go to the lighting store today with the recommendations in mind and I think I found something that speaks to what was mentioned! Not something I would normally go for (outside safe zone :) but it’s pretty in person and it‘s not glass. it will be 20”W so a whole lot larger than current ones but i think i may be able to get away with it or you think too much since it’ll be close to breakfast chandelier?

I also found a very cool chandelier that could go with it! Has a similar vibe to ones mentioned earlier. It’s about 25” W and it’ll be about 25” in height - thats the shortest height: Those clear balls are much nicer in person.

You can put a wood tray or charcuterie board with gold handles on the island and it will tie everything together!

I printed out a version of the pendants, small versions since they’ll be 20”. You don’t think it’ll be too large or too much black lines happening so close together?

If it looks great, Once i install i need to get a new faucet anyhow, do you think I should just stick to the cabinet hardware(matte silver) or should I try a little more goldish? I can always create a new discussion on that one but curious on your thoughts.

How wide are your current pendants? But because of the new ones shape and open look, I think they would be great.

Remember the 20” is only at the widest point. But I think they fight with the breakfast chandy. That is actually too wide for your table. You might want to consider moving that one to great room and get a better size for breakfast table?

The island is the focal point, so something simple for over table would work with these pendants. Too much with both. IMO

@Flo Mangan The table is oval 84 by 52 so it does fit but the other way. I wanted to see it better so I ended up turning it so the wide side faced the living room. We recently got this chandelier so not replacing for now. The pendants currently on the island are 12”

I see the breakfast chandelier is oval. That’s cool. Turn it so it follows shape of table. That should work. Those pendants work. They have a bit more personality. Clear glass in kitchen is harder to keep looking sparkling clean but it seems to be your desired look. But I think those would be nice look.
