Get a larger TV, lower it to proper viewing height with a credenza underneath it that is at least 25% wider than the television.

With current tv resolution, the old distance rules are no longer necessary.

dan188 - This is interesting info to learn as I'm about to buy a new TV. I'm 7 ft away from my tv area and presumed I should get a 50" TV. Is that no longer the case? I have very poor vision. Would that play into it?

First question to you comes to mind is : what do you need in that room …do you need bookshelves ? A long counter for a bar , or a display of your silver or necessary items ..do you need storage or for art , photos …sculptures …space to hang your bicycle …or a dining room table , Figure it out , then incorporate the little television ..but in any case the tv should be much lower … a tv is not a decoration it’s for viewing so, place it where it’s most comfortable for you to see it . You have a great space for so many things on that wall ….figure out your needs .

The old distances placed the viewer far enough away so the pixels weren't individually noticeable. I'm often 6' from my 65" oled Sony(LG display) Sound also can be considered.

Get a nice long console upon which to put your TV.
