I have it here in my farm's dry valley woodland. I've seen the leaves and the flower stalks and seed pods, but oddly enough, in over forty years I've never managed to catch it in bloom. But the leaves are unmistakable. Supposedly it can form colonies, but I've only ever seen the odd plant here and there, sometimes two or three. But nothing I'd consider a "colony".

Aplectrum hyemale blooms without the leaf in June. Just remember where some leaves are and look there in June for the in bloom stalk. June must be a busy month for you.

@Christopher CNC my *tended* garden approaches 2.5 acres. The woodland garden is two more. The untended woodland is 20+ acres. Then there's the actual farming of hay and cattle. I very rarely get to just take a walk anymore! lol. It has had to become a planned event these past few years to get out into the woods and ramble. I do try to get out in April when the native azaleas are in bloom. That's about the only consistent time I manage to enjoy the "wild" part of my land. Here's a link to a thread (not mine, but I posted there) with some photos of the garden closest to the house. Other folks posted their gardens and nature photos, as well. You'll have to scroll through most of the long thread to see all of mine. The second set begins with a nighttime moon rise photo. Toward the end there's even a photo of my lower pasture. @fig_insanity Z7b E TN I would certainly like to stroll your gardens in search of the wild orchids. The Putty Root and the Rattlesnake Plantain, Goodyera pubescens, orchids are very common here in NC mountains. I find them often in cultivated beds in client's gardens so have much more opportunity to see them in bloom. They exist in abundance in my own wild cultivated gardens. I see them in bloom regularly even if I miss them one year. The Showy Orchis is the orchid I have to make a special trip into the deep forest to see in bloom.
