Final touches on our new guest area

Please be so kind as to help me finish our new guest bedroom. My old post has disappeared and probably a blessing in disguise! I have all the furniture in the only spots they fit in here. Is a small narrow bedroom (9’ x 13’)

Just received my third and final bedspread today and it seems to match my bird art frames above the bed. I realize i may need a bit more fluff in the bed although the buttons along the foot are really something i like. And I still want to paint the headboard and refinish the nightstand is where I am at now.

The rattan chair and armoire have a bit of different styles but I am keeping them in here and I just hung the new curtains.

I have attempted to keep my new post here brief but informative. The wall with the straw hat is something i’m working in and hopefully can make it work. I’m really not wishing to have this room formal, just pleasant and the vintage french (not too country) was my original wishes, hopefully I can gather help from us Houzzers to get this room more complete. The adjoining bathroom we added here has made me so happy with everyone’s help. I’ll show pictures as well of that here too.

We really stretched our budget on the bathroom addition, so i’m only able to move forward with most the items i already have here.

Everyone’s welcome here as you all know me here and always appreciate the help and fun we’ve had thus far.

I’m stubborn and will bot give up on finalizing, lol.

I guess I can just stick it in the bedroom somewhere lol

Protect the painting with some paper or something under or against the frame so you don’t get frame paint on the painting.

Oh those kitties are so cute and fresh! Mama might be taking a break….

  • yesterday

Maybe mama is looking for a place to move them?

  • yesterday

I don't understand about the pipes I know it's going to a stove that would stove or gas stove really but maybe you could scooch over the cabinet and inch toward the music stand it doesn't line up with the picture frame on one side like the other side's off unless you wanted to look like that then just leave it

I wonder if Missy would let her in the backyard?

  • yesterday

I very much doubt that. In fact, I’ve tried to keep her away from the front. In the morning when I feed, I have to be really fast lol, it’s almost comical trying to get to everybody at the same time because of course they act like they’re starving.

  • yesterday

Missy is tiny, but very mighty. I heard a commotion, very loud commotion and squalling in the backyard the other day and she had a squirrel that was the size of her balled up in the corner and was gnawing on his neck. I finally got her to let go, of course I didn’t want to stick my hand down in there! And there was another squirrel crying in the tree like help help! I got a stick and tapped her on the bottom and she finally let go, and it ran away. Sharp clapping with my hands, tends to get their attention as well.

Happy I was talking about my display of the old tobacco pipes. I made some tuna fish salad for lunch, I’ll be back here in just a little bit.

Hm…I vote no Blue table. You could let the cats eat the squirrels. Squirrels are just large rodents in my opinion they do a lot of damage. I hope nothing happens to the mama cat. Do you have a spay and neuter program in your city? If you do they might help you out. They’re also called TNR… Trap neuter and release. I’m sure the white cat does not have a home otherwise she wouldn’t be camping out on your porch. They picked the safest place they can find to have their babies.

  • yesterday

Printesa you’re probably right about her not having a home. They roam and I think the lady across the street street was feeding a couple of the cats, but when we get together and talk about them, they all sound alike, white, long haired, short haired tabby. She came back, I guess she was just taking a break! I had no doubt she would. I’m going to take the table away and I’ll just stash it somewhere in a corner until I can use it for something, or not lol. We don’t have a trap, neuter and release program in our city. OH and I are about the only ones that ever really cared enough to trap a few every year and take them to the vet and then release them back. Those I have not seen in a while, I guess we scared them off lol. He trapped a few and took them to the old church out in the country. But we thought we better stop taking too many out there to them too. I guess I should’ve let her win over the squirrel, but my first thought was her getting bit or scratched and get infection? She’ll need more inoculations than I usually get for my indoor cats.

Well, I’ve been wrestling with all these pipes. I would like for his daughter and our grandsons to look through them when they come over on Tuesday. Perhaps they might want one for a sentimental momentum? I was going to display them all along the top of the cabinet, but after I got finished cleaning up there with all the dust, I thought my second thought was to not put them up there because I would be cleaning and dusting them off too frequently for me. I believe there are over 50, plus boxes of clay pipes for he had saved and collected since he was a teenager. I could contact a collector at some point, but I’m not ready for that yet.

  • yesterday

A curio cabinet would be the best thing, I’ll just have to keep my eye out for one. It’s quite an impressive collection.

  • yesterday

    Better?

  • yesterday

One day hopefully soon all this trim and baseboard will be repainted in here. You all know I’ll get to that one day lol

  • yesterday

Wonderful job on the art! Yes, I like it by itself on that wall. Just paint the outlet the same color as the wall. And if you have an extra chair to put in the corner, that’s fine.

Oh My!! Another cat family! Alice, you are truly a saint for taking care of these sudden families.♥️

  • yesterday

Unless it's needed to fill an empty space that we aren't seeing you really don't need the music stand in that spot either. And that's a nice height for the painting. 👏🏼

  • yesterday

Yes, good job on the art! Looks great there. My eyes must have been a bit bonkers above because I read "black outlet"! 🙃 No worries until you have the paintbrush out again. 😀 Music stand whichever you like better-not really needed but depends upon if you have another place for it.

  • yesterday

That's an interesting pipe collection your oh has and that looks good now the picture on the wall and the stand move lungs of cats don't knock it over if you think they're going to get rough how she might have to have the cabinet back and put the music stand but you know your cats what they can do Maui would be so innocent there she wouldn't bother anything unless she's having a rebellion moment where she wants to talk to her daddy and I come into the room and bother her time with him!

  • yesterday

Thank you Gls! I like it by itself as well and that surprises me. I put the navy blue table over between the couch and the AC wall. It fit just perfect and is kind of hidden in a sense and out-of-the-way. I know I cannot believe more kittens. Yes they are cute as can be, but that tends to be my downfall. As of today, there’s not a whole lot I can do but take care of mama then go from there. I imagine I’ll be vacuuming and straightening some more around here for company on Tuesday. I’m not expecting an all day visit, but it will be good to have them drop by for a little while. KC don’t feel bad, the word black has been used around here a lot lately lol. I’ll probably touch on that outlet cover tomorrow. I think I have some of that wall color left. If not, it’s probably something I’m zeroing in on, which no one else will. Thank you for your compliments on the art as well. I’m thankful that I could use that piece in a way that fits somewhere in here. It’s very colorful and brings those colors from the valences over to that side of the room too.

  • yesterday

Happy thank you! I’m glad you like the art there too. That’s one large frame that’s been in storage and I’ve tried to use it so many times in so many ways and it looks like I finally found a home for it. Yes the pipe collection is massive! I’ve not seen many that large and I’m kind of at awe with it, now that I’ve gone through everything and looked it over. I’m glad I decided to leave it in the cabinet versus on the cabinet because I got to thinking about all the dusting I’m already doing lol.

If you do get a Cario cabinet get one of those skinny ones they're kind of nice in a corner

Just getting back on line. Our cable and Internet went down at 2 pm yesterday. I went to bed around 11:30 and it wasn’t back then!! Must have been someone cutting through lines. They didn’t say cause. I opted to get text messages when back on line. Didn’t happen. Woke up about 1:15 and found it back up. Never had a. outage that long. Most inconvenient. Anyway, I think the E. Art came out pretty well. I like it there. Hard to tell finish of the frame but you can make that determination in situ!

I am trying to catch up after that LONG XFinity outage yesterday. I think you are doing great. Yes, hang onto those pipes. There might be some very valuable ones in that collection. Don’t clean them or mess with them in any way to preserve their potential value beyond sentimental!

  • yesterday

Art looks great solo! I like the smaller chunk of the painting better than the original larger one. Might be fun to cut the remaining canvas into placemats. Just a crazy idea…

My suggestion for the smaller pieces i’ve leftover canvas is to frame them as gifts… It’s very easy to buy inexpensive frames in a dollar store. Other options would be glue it into the base of a wooden tray, or on a box top. Those unfinished trays and wooden boxes are also easily purchased in craft stores and dollar stores.

I'm sure you are busy getting ready for the family visit tomorrow! Enjoy some time off to visit with them.

How are mama and babies doing? 😻

I have been a little bit busy around here just putting up clutter that I had out and things I didn’t use when I was doing the gallery and some floor cleaning and extra kitty litter box cleaning. The little ones seem to be doing fine. They’re all still in the same place and I check on them of course all the time. I have to get down on my hands and knees to look under there, but it’s worth it lol. I did go out this evening because we are in the triple digits and there is that west side of the porch that they are about 5 feet from that the brutal sun just beams in. I hung a sheet on my lattice, luckily, I found a green sheet that I didn’t mind poking holes in to put zip ties on. I left it up off the floor about a foot to keep airflow going. I had thought of it earlier and went out with all my supplies, but the sun was already passed, so I came back in with everything. Then I got to thinking about tomorrow and I’ll be busy so I went back out there and put it up. My front porch looks very sheety 🤪 . I got my pillow inserts today. I only made a couple errands to try to stay indoors. I’ll take a picture if I remember tomorrow during the day of the velvet, I guess like a peach brown pillows? I put them on the sofa which they blend nicely, not any contrast but sure looked better than the old beat up ones. I had on there. Since I’ve got a strapping young man coming tomorrow, I’m going to ask him to help me get a few old cabinets out of the garage and set out on the curb. It’ll only take a few minutes and I’m sure he won’t mind. I had a hard time going to sleep last night, like most nights, but I got my manual out for my new power washer that I had bought a few months ago. Reading through that helped me sleep 😂 i’ve got to get to our local library and see what I can find because I used to read quite often before bedtime.

Lia that’s a good idea with that leftover canvas is to frame them as gifts. There it sets and I hate to roll it up and I don’t wanna put it back in the attic because that wasn’t good for it. In fact, I’m lucky it didn’t ruin it. If my grandson brings his girlfriend, which she usually does. She is into drifting as much or more than I am. In fact, she works at a thrift store part-time while attending college. She always walks through here, very slow and just takes in everything. A very nice young lady, what I was thinking is to see if she may want it, or a few of these extra things I have here. I imagine we’ll grab a bite out for lunch which I’m looking forward to because I haven’t eaten out or grabbed anything fast food , since the funeral except one time on Mother’s Day.

I’ve been getting mail of course on Medicare starting up this next birthday month. It seems they are going to deduct part B whether I enroll or not. I actually wasn’t planning on enrolling this year and the extra $200 will be coming out of my Social Security, which has me a little bit nerved to say the least. I’ll speak to our advisor that we thought highly of when OH was on Medicare and see what he can offer as far as information on the subject. I really was unaware that they automatically deducted it unless you signed up for it. With what I’ve read I honestly don’t think I can do anything about it, which makes it harder for me to accept. There may be a plan I can apply for to help reduce that dediction, but I’m just really not sure yet.

    Thrifting not drifting :)

It will be a good thing Alice! We're paying over $500!

Happy it will really eat into my budget. Why are you paying over $500?

I’m trying to talk my ex into signing up for his Social Security and getting on Medicare. He is almost one year behind me in age, but he is due a quadruple bypass and has been paying cash out-of-pocket for a few stents several months ago waiting on the bypass. I don’t speak with him much, but between my daughter we relay things back-and-forth lol

That's such a smart idea to talk with your Medicare advisor before getting locked into - or locked out of - an option. You are doing so well with decisions but that's one you really need the best advice for.

Your visitors are going to be so impressed with your front-of-the-house changes and will undoubtedly get a kick out of your homeless kitten destination. I hope you have a really enjoyable visit!

Lowes ins & employer pays. Medicare pays better & the $200 one will cover all. Otherwise you'll owe 20%.

Yes, the Lowes insurance, group insurance for Medical wasn’t very good. The deductible is astronomical. I will say though that their vision and dental beats no other, and I got that from my optometrist and my dentist.

Thank you, Jay. I think so much of these kids, even though they’re not from OH and my relationship. We both were accepted into each other‘s families quite well, which I am thankful for. I am definitely looking forward to their visit tomorrow. Plus, it’s good to have company every now and again around here 😊 no one has been over since February to visit and or visit OH’s gravesite, perhaps it was a bit difficult for them and I’m glad they are making the effort. Their drive is about an hour or so that’s not too bad.

Alice, be sure to talk to the advisor and get all the details. I think since you don't have employer coverage, if you don't take it at 65 you will pay a penalty with higher premiums for late enrollment that will never go away. You certainly don't want that. And yes, since you are already collecting SS, I think you get enrolled. Just don't get into a situation of paying a higher amount forever.

I did read that about the penalties! They really know how to get ya!

Alice, I have Parts A, B and D, and I have a supplement policy. Everything has been covered, including two ER visits, three surgeries, and one hospitalization. I was warned not to choose Medicare Advantage, so I encourage you to get and the pros and cons on that.

Sorry I got tied up for a while and I think you need to birth certificate ID and insurance information that you had Insurance on yourself from the year prior or this year that you have you're covered

happy, I think you only need proof of insurance if you are enrolling late due to being employed and on their plan to avoid the late enrollment penalty.

I posted these pillows that I got for the sofa on Lia’s thread since she was looking at pillows. I wanted to also post them here, I’m calling them a mauve color? Of course, the lighting in here is never just right.

I should paint that navy blue cabinet over there next to the sofa. Maybe I can do it in the same color as the TV stand. That was a place that I just found, and it fit there, and actually serves a purpose. that is more or less a hidden corner back there so I could fit it in without crowding the room some more..

Not sure about the cat oval there, but that was a first instinct to keep her in here.

I’m waiting on my company, they will arrive later this afternoon. Was the last text that I got late yesterday. We will be reaching 104 today and extremely uncomfortable to say the least outside. I’m not sure what the heat index will reach, it seems to get more humid in the later afternoon?

Just make sure whoever you talk to is actually informed. I’m still debating on what I should do about the guy at the bank who handed out misinformation on my registered retirement savings plan… to me. I saw him again today in the bank…and it just reminded me of how annoying it is when people in positions of authority handout misinformation.

Uh oh, she’s moving her kittens to somewhere else. I just came out to look and there’s only three. I’m going to see what she does.

Oh, she’s taking them over there under the neighbors house, perhaps it’s cooler there. Mama knows best.
