I agree with choosing brown. Maybe get two end tables or a coffee table of the same wood so it's not in isolation? When you get new sofas almost anything will go with it.

Your room has enough black, select the grayed brown media unit if your need additional storage.

Lower the position of the TV on the wall It's mounted too high

There's no reason to spend so much $$$ on a media cabinet when a media shelf will do for less than $300

Move your sofa 4-6 inches away from the shutters.

Boost up your tree inside a planter to get the best height for the room.

Long before I committed to that overpriced cabinet?

I'd invest:

In an electrician, and an IR repeater, and HDMI cable. LOWER the tv, have all the wires "disappeared". Closet, basement, literally anywhere is possible.

I'd run a long pale oak float shelf beneath.....Buy great baskets/big!! for kid junk. And put those right below the shelf.

Then? Get a nice large indoor/outdoor rug. You can do that customized to size at any good broadloom store. The textures, colors, have become nearly infinite. It will ground the seating, and will clean up as easy as pie.

I'd do all of that before I spent thousands on a cabinet to stow kiddie junk that will be outgrown before you can blink.

I will be the outlayer. A cabinet will take you over the long haul. Living rooms call for FURNITURE. Those shelves are a fad that will date the room. They are an apartment, minimalistic look. You have a nice sized room. No reason not to fill it! As far as color--you need at least two hits of a wood to make it not look like a garage sale. I would match the lighter oak in your kitchen because right now the minimal amount you have of that light oak makes your kitchen look 'off'--something missing. Why isn't the hood in the light wood? The black will not makes sense.

Not black for sure and not that unlovely, unnatural brown, either. Need a light wood...the same as the cabinets or a nick or two darker. A wood color that has some life & warmth.

I would do as Jan suggested and use a shelf for the TV. Media is fickle...remember those media cabinets to house the TV, VCR, cable boxes, VHS tapes/ CD's, etc. that you can't even give away now? No way that I would spend $3500+ on that cabinet when tech will likely make the set-up obsolete within 5 years.

I used a primitive heart pine chicken feed bin to toss the kid junk in back in the day. Got it at a farm auction for $4. Refinished it and it has served as toy box, firewood box and now as blanket storage box.

Agree with the brown but I would do stainless handles not gold toned. Why are there only a few light cabinets? Seems odd, are there others that we can’t see, or are some lowers light wood?

I'd even browse Ikea , below.......do something that adds great texture , houses all the small junk kids have, easy to access and put away!. Butt TWO together!!

Kids will have that RH cabinet beat up in no time at all. It's just imported.........whatever. So overpriced, it's almost a sin. Actually it IS a sin: )

I'd change that low white cab left of fridge to oak in a heartbeat........and in a perfect world, I'd have ended the "run" WITH the fridge and finish side panel .

My kids are practically grown and I still appreciate the storage in my media console. Yes, there are less devices, and no more kid junk in there, but there are still myriads of usage for the storage—board games, photo albums, to name a few. I agree with those that say get a lighter wood piece. If it isn’t too late, change that hood to match the cabinets. From the pics shown, your white oak cabinets have no context and look out of place. I would still take Beverly’s advice on the placement of the tv and sofas.

I would go to some local home furnishing stores to look for this cabinet rather than online.

Room & Board has tons of options , better quality at a reasonable price. i have two credenzas & other cabinets from R & B, some in walnut & two others in charcoal stain ( actually bownish/ charcoal ) very close in color to SW Urbane Bronze. Love RH we have the one you posted in light oak in our media room and a black one in our family room..great pieces! I think the one you posted would be gorgeous in the dark finish or black…we did this style RH in black in family room.

not sure why no one mentioned the tv being in outer space lol.

I know you didnt ask but that series of 4 square pendants. Should go bye bye. they placement is wrong and the number 4 is wrong and the style is wrong. this room would fair better and be more well lit by replacing those with the same recessed through out.

I looked closer at your gorgeous floors and counter stools and think the black console will look gorgeous!
