counter over farm sink placed poorly!

hired a kd amd told him zero reveal. he didn’t know what that was. i know i know but is already signed a contract. not sue what he told the fabricator but there’s a significant difference of overlay. the right is a cm more overhang plus they used a thick caulking under it! isn’t that wrong?!

What do you mean the right has a cm more overhang? In which direction?

it hangs over the sink a cm more than the left side so it’s not centered amd th amount of caulking looks silly.

There has to be caulk. You’ll get used to that. Tell the fabricator or whoever is in charge of your project that the counter has to be fixed.

Looks flush on left but not on the right. Need to review with fabricator maybe and see what can be done?

Yes I can slightly tell the countertop overhangs are off and the caulking definitely looks thicker on the right as well. That would bother me.

I would take a few photos to show the ”kd”.

Notice I put kd in quotes because I cannot imagine a certified kd not knowing what a positive, negative, and flush or zero sink reveal is. 🙄

For one pic, use a tape measure to show the length of each overhang to prove the length of the two sides are different.

Next place the tape under the overhang to show if there is a negative reveal and if they are off as well.

Is the back of the sink flush, but just not the sides? Sorry, it is hard for me to tell in the photos.

If it is a negative reveal, explain to him that the reason you asked for a ZERO (or flush) reveal is so that you don’t have to worry about cleaning nasty gunk and mildew that gets up underneath the overhang.

If your ”KD” is still confused, or makes excuses, or tries to justify, or says that it looks just fine, etc etc…

Show him this photo. I put the photos next to each other because I thought it would make it easier to see the different reveals side by side.

I understand it is easier for the fabricator to do a negative reveal, but that is not what you asked for. I am sure you would have been willing to pay whatever the fabricator normally charges extra to do a flush reveal.

    Georganne:

The sink can be pulled without too much trouble and without removing the countertop; I do this all the tiime in my sink replacement business. The edge can be taken back; I'd highly recommend the smallest possible positive reveal which makes the most easily cleaned surface and the best most inconspicuous joint between the stone bottom and the sink. It also protects the bottom edge of the stone, unlike a negative reveal. Flush reveals make elongated silicone joints that fray and become contaminated and unsanitary.

Your KD may like the pencil sink edge profile, but it's a chip factory. You'll have chew marks all over it in two years. 1/4" radius minimum please; you'll thank me years from now. 6 hours or so for an experienced technician, but your sink will be centered perfectly. Have them clip the corners too please.

Your picture is a perfect example of why you always bring the countertop to the sink, never the sink to the countertop, with caulk color choice. Insist upon Axiom Translucent Beige please.

No, it was a sink installer issue. Level, flush, square, and plumb are the only responsibilities of a cabinet installer. The sink installer should have utilized a method that allowed him to bring the sink flange to the bottom of the tops after the tops were installed without compressive shims such as a sink strap system or a Pete's Sink Mount Kit. Either are retrofittable when the sink gets pulled.

joseph the sink installer was the cabinet installer! maybe that was the problem! anyway the “kd” hired all these guys as he’s acting as the GC,
    and he emailed me and
said it’s nothing to do w sink or
cabinet, it’s the counter installer amd that he will
have him call me to meet at the house. meanwhile, i thought i hired this “kd” to handle these
details. what the…?! and when i held back the balance of the payment he said he was disappointed. HE was disappointed. ok then!

correction… KD said it’s a sink/counter problem. it’s funny tho he refuses to address the fact i asked for zero reveal! although i see joseph you’ve said a slight positive reveal but i’m afraid of dirty caulking showing as i’ve seen on my sisters! and the axiom translucent beige is your recommendation for caulking i see so i will ask for that!

There is never any "dirty caulking" on a properly undermounted sink with a slight positive reveal because the caulk is virtually unexposed.

update! fabricator said you can’t get a zero reveal w this sink and that it looks great. somehow when he measure both sides he came out the same but it’s obvious by the pics it’s not. plus i found it to be a cm off to which he responded that 1 cm is acceptable. hasn’t admitted the sink is too low either. i had to leave. told him i’d send someone else to talk to him. would be nice if the KD who was paid to oversee the project would deal w him but crickets!
