Start by removing all the overgrowth that is hiding the house .Where is the road ? I like a direct walkway from the street to the entry not from the driveway. The house looks like a ranch maybe MCM ?

A front walkway almost always leads to the “front door”. That would be its purpose. If you want the front door to stand out, you may want to paint it a different color. You can mount the street address number at or just above eye level to draw the eye of a visitor or delivery person.

I suspect that a change in landscaping will help your dilemma.

For starters, I would either trim or select shrubs that can be kept at a height no taller than your window sills.

You need a landscape plan that emphasizes the front door. Until you've done one of those, removing just the bushes by the front door and smoothing the join of the 2 paths is a good place to start. Like this:

Thank you all for the suggestions. It's so nice that you took time to write your ideas. The theme was consistent to start with the landscape and remove the large plants in front of the house and I was thinking the same thing. They are azaleas and will be beautiful in the spring but maybe I can post on marketplace and someone would want them. I especially appreciated that Jennifer saw the forest-like yard (and the neighborhood is across the street from a nature preserve) and it was a huge factor in my choosing this house. But I do see it needs some control to it if the front door will ever have something to announce it's presence. Painting the door will have no effect at all since it can not be seen until you have figured out where it is and are right in front of it. Thank you for the suggestions -much appreciation
