Deviated fang due to dog attack

Hello guys good day!

Today I am reaching you for some help, it turns out that yesterday I was walking with my dog, (I had him on a leash and with a muzzle) unfortunately I did not manage to notice two stray dogs that attacked us when we crossed our path, and thank God It wasn't serious, but then I realized what had happened to my dog (see photos), we don't know if it was due to the clash of the jaws, some bite, or if perhaps in his attempt to defend himself he made himself this damage with the muzzle, as you can see the fang was deviated, I already took it to the vet and he told me that for now we have to see how it evolves with the analgesics since the fang has not completely detached (he has given us five days to see the evolution). However, I want to know if you, in your experience, know if this will look normal again? How long can it take? Or will it remain like this forever with that ball in the snout? Is there anything I can do other than give him pain relievers and antibiotics?

I know it may sound vain, but for me he is the most beautiful thing I have in my life and it has hurt me a lot to see his face like this, if there is something I can do to make him look like he is and not lose his fang, I will do everything necessary.

Thank you so much guys for your thoughs. I'm trying to reach a canine dental clinic to get a second opinion from the vets. In the meantime, some people have told me to sooftly massage its snout to push the fang back into its original place a bit, what do you think of that?

What a horrible & scary experience. I wonder how much of the ’ball’ shape is due to swelling of tissue? It sounds like Vet is hoping pup’s fang tooth will move back into position as swelling reduces. Good that he gave you pain meds for pup. I assume he also warned against letting pup chew on any toys or do anything that might cause further damage to that tooth. Soft food too. If you have to muzzle dog when in public, - I hope that’s not a permanent thing - , maybe find a muzzle with no straps around the mouth. I’ve seen one that looks like a feed bag used for horses - except the end for snout is open. It allows dog to drink & lick but not open mouth completely - also discourages barking. It connects with one strap behind ears. Probably not meant for aggressive dogs but your pup looks soft & gentle - accepts your handling of him around his hurt mouth. He is a pretty dog.

His tooth has been displaced, possibly the alveolar bone fractured, it needs to be pressed back into place and stabilized, if loose possibly removed. Im a dentist., not a vet.,

Cristian - did Vet xray? Is there a Canine / small animal Vet specializing in dentistry in your area? I ask because a practice recently opened in my mid-sized city. After reading @laini post, I’d be wanting a second opinion post haste.

If his jaw & tooth injury is as serious & bad as @laini thinks it may be, massaging that area likely won’t do much to correct it. For sure if dog exhibits any pain when you touch the area, then don’t! If he’s pawing at it or rubbing head on floor, anything that might further damage, then you’ll need to put a cone on him to prevent that. There are softer cones out there now that seem more comfortable than the standard hard plastic ones we’re used to seeing. You have to make sure dog can get to water bowl when wearing a cone. Very good that you’re looking to get a second opinion! I feel better for your dog knowing that you’re doing that! I’m a ”dog person” too!
