OTR Hood or Microwave

Hello! I am remodeling my New York City kitchen, so the space is VERY compact. Becasue of this, I need to put the fridge right next to the range. To get a cleaner look, I'm opting for a wall oven under a gas cooktop. The original plan has an OTR microwave, but I'm considering using the hood cabinet insert I found (linked below) so it just has the look of clean cabinets over the cooktop. Also considering getting a drawer or countertop microwave or no microwave at all. I'm not a big fan of them in general (though I use them from time to time), but also thinking of rental/resale value. Does anyone have opinions/experience with something similar? Particularly in small city apartments :)

We would say a drawer microwave would be best so you can save counter space since your kitchen is compact.

I’m not a fan of OTR microwaves but this is definitely a kitchen i would use one in. drawer micro will take up limited drawer space. not having one would be detraction for resale.

Thanks, @CAGE Design Build and @lharpie! You both make good points about sacrificing either counter space or drawer space - sounds like it's just a matter of which I'll need more of.

I get the impression that this reno might prioritize aesthetics over function or workflow. Not a criticism at all - I've heard the stories of New Yorkers storing their clothing in the oven :-) As such, I say lean into the look that pleases you most. I doubt a built-in microwave is a deal breaker for a future sale or rental agreement. If you're concerned it will be, plan ahead and just have an outlet installed in a cabinet where you'd otherwise install the appliance.
