Help with pantry and cupboard height at low cost

last modified: 2 years ago

Should i box in the pantry to go to ceiling - it looks weird like an afterthought? Im not removing it

should my upper cupboards be painted white and be boxed in to ceiling … even tho its vaulted

i am adding new hardwood through out house and new pot lights in kitchen FYI

thanks

UPDATE TO ABOVE - NEW PICS **

Here are some newest pics we got the new floor and made some changes

im going to follow advice above with changing my pantry door for sure but currently i need kitchen light ideas

slanted ceiling - i just put that track light in there for now but my challenge is i have all the light/fan so close together in one room i fear putting more will make it all look cluttered and busy

i already have those dumb speakers in ceiling i cant remove cheaply - sigh

any suggestions im afraid of hanging pendents over island plus a ceiling light scares me

should i just do one bar light from ceiling hanging simple and thin ? i added the lamp which really works in kitchen

should I raise the ceiling fan another foot so it is closer to ceiling so its not a focus ? i dont love them but want one - here below is the best pic of all the lights in view UGHH hate that -

we are removing these french doors and putting in a window here same height as other windows

and moving the door around the corner in dining room ... shortly will ask for help with drapes again after i do that i do NOT want to highlight the slanted ceiling so not painting - i hate the slant UPDATE TO ABOVE

I'd leave it as is, paint the 'pantry' a color you like (the space could use a bit of color) and change out the door to something fun.

Do you like the layout? Before investing in floors, id consider reconfiguring the kitchen a bit to get the fridge out of the corner and increase your cabs+counters or install a tall oven cabinet to the left if the range.

You haven't shown us views from all four walls, ie. living room area, rug in there, art work, decor, etc. Everything in the kitchen needs to harmonize with entire living space. Fortunately, your furnishings do go well with existing cabinets. The gold floor looks great. Why are you replacing that.

To get a richer, more interesting feeling, make the existing "givens" work together with well-chosen rugs, art, drapes, decor. Here are palettes in art and rugs that would really give you a more dynamic space.

--Add a runner in the hallway to make a pathway into the space--this palette. Since you didn't show us living room, maybe none of this would work. Can you add another photo to help us out here? I know you asked about the kitchen, but the whole space has to work. We have no idea why you're replacing what looks like a wonderful floor. Please explain.

--Add a rug under your dining table wide enough so that chairs glide entirely on the rug.

--Add narrow art work on that pantry wall facing living room. You might be able to buy one section of a triptich that would work.

Maybe upgrade your counter chairs for a more elegant look?

Your several recent posts make me think you have some money for a small upgrade — but not enough to do things right.

I suggest leaving things as they are until you have the budget to do what you really want to do.
Don’t let that money in your pocket burn you instead of just your pocket. Patience.

I would not make any major changes but the door just doesn't look right in the kitchen. I'd change to either a pair of narrow doors or espresso framed doors to complement the cabinets.

I think the counter top could use some better lighting.

IMO a pantry is just a big cabinet and should match the cabinets . You are right it was after thought for sure . I waould now at least do a door like Beverly suggested to make it look a little more like it was planned .I do not know what the floors are now so can't comment on thta . I llike thos pendants too but please make sure all the bulbs in all the fixtures are LED 4000K. Sorry but all those art pieces look like cheap hotel art.I also do not like the colors. I need to see the rest of the living space to even hazard a guess at art .Paint the pantry walls the same as the rest of the walls and IMO do not bother taking any of the cabinets to the ceiling.
