Use masking tape the try out the different placeme ts. Yes Yes, there are some rules, but whether it looks right or not depends on the projection of your pull, the scale of your kitchen and how much distance you have in which to view the handle. My installers have said, ”People usually do xyz…” but honestly mine have always wanted to stay out of it and just do what I tell them I want.

Visual aids for those of us who can’t mind meld, would help. Post pictures.

I like my pulls centered for all drawer sizes. The 2/3 mark mentioned above looks off to me.

Do what you want, but it is a non-issue and just a matter of personal taste.

When I was deciding where to place our pulls, I did see that some pros recommended doing what you’re saying to make them appear centered. But others did not. I ended up choosing a true center, and I’m very happy with that. It will never appear centered for every view/height/angle. And once everything is done you will never notice that anymore.

I have mine equidistant from the top on all the drawers, regardless of size - I think it's like 3" or so from the top edge of the drawer. I prefer how that looks. As others have mentioned, it what looks best to your eye. This is an excellent time to use a strip of painter's tape as a mock-up to see what you like best.
