Help with empty space

Hi, I am struggling to work out what to do with this empty corner in my living room. We usually put our a Christmas tree here but when it’s not up it looks quite bare. We aren’t able to do a study nook as we don’t have power in this area, but any suggestions and ideas are very appreciated. Thanks

What does the rest of the room look like- open up into? Do you need storage? Dry bar? a LARGE piece of art on the wall would look great and bring in some color.

A comfortable reading chair, floor lamp and small table for your hot chocolate?

Lauren has no outlet on that empty wall, so cant plug in a lamp for now.
Beverley, FYI the tv viewing distance chart is OK for 1080 pixel TV, but is much shorter distances for higher resolution TVs (i.e., instead of 10 ft away for 1080 pixel is only 7 ft away for hi res.

Lauren, how far over towards the corner can the power cord reach so you can move the wall mount TV? Or do you have e budget to add another electrical outlet centered between corner and end of fireplace?

Where are you located? There should be an outlet on that wall, by code!

Here are some other photos of the room.

the reason i haven’t centred the tv to the wall is because if we push the couch closer to the kitchen it will be too close to the island bench. The photo of the TV might be misleading but the TV is 65 inches so a larger TV will be too big

we could get another outlet on the wall somewhere if we needed to

I'd hang a large pice of artwork on the short wall of that corner area and put a plant in the corner.

How about an area rug to anchor the couch? A ladder shelf in the corner with some things you enjoy?

I'd do low-profile swivel chairs by the FP (in a color) and pull the color over to the otehr side with LARGE wall art. Maybe a small console table on the short wall closest to kitchen. And some rugs under sofa and even dining set. The wood tone of TV console and FP stones needs to help warm up the space.

Thank you @Gcubed. Will look into swivel chairs. What colour would you recommend? Would a camel colour like the attached suit? if not, what other colours would complement the grey couch and the FP stone?

I’d be inclined to add an antique secretary, something tall, not terribly wide, probably Victorian that has a little embellishment on it….something to balance the fireplace and break up all the modernity. From your photos it reads you really like modern and clean lines and no doo-dads but mixing in one opposite piece would just reinforce the modernity of the other things you have.

Yes to an outlet over there. You need lamps! Is there a floor outlet under the sofa? Yes to leaning into the yellow/caramel of the FP color - otherwise it looks like an outlier in your space. I’d suggest that color on the rug too.

Hello Lauren. Here are some of my thoughts.

I think you need something to connect the fireplace to the whole wall and even perhaps onto the right wall. You could always put a large piece of art or large plant (or both) there, but I think something structural is needed too.

Please pardon the terrible mockup, but you could hire a skilled woodworker to make a wall hung cabinet that extends across the entire wall in a similar color wood as your existing cabinet:

You might also really like this (I do!), & I think it would work well butting the bench up to the fireplace & going all across that wall (and perhaps even continuing around the corner 2' or so), then putting the wallpaper/mural just on the fireplace wall. (You would then probably need to have a smaller(shorter) wall mounted cabinet/shelf unit under the TV):

A longer, low media unit to fill the space would be nice, and then you could hang artwork or open shelving over the part that is adjacent to the TV.

You can buy battery operated lamps, so don't worry about no outlet there.

Do you read books? If so, perhaps a book case and comfy reading chair in that corner.
