Do you have natural gas or propane ... and do you know if the range is set up correctly for the gas type you have? It makes a big difference.

While building we rented a house and the new outdoor grill could barely warm up a piece of meat. Landlord sent someone out and the burner was set up for NG and not for the propane that was available at the house. Huge difference after and the grill had no problem heating up to 500F in no time and actually grilling food.

There are services that repair appliance control boards. It's too late now but were you unaware of the repair possibility? Or did you investigate it at the time and none of them could handle the boards involved?

We have natural gas and this is a direct replacement for the exact same range that was here previously. All lines are the same and gas is strong and oven heats pefectly fine (oven is also gas, not duel fuel) although the oven often gets hotter than the temperature set.

I was unaware as to the abilty of having the board repaired as Thermador was here several times and tried to use newer boards, disposed of the non working one and then, after several visits told us we had no other options but to get a new unit. He seemed pretty certain from the start that getting a new unit was the only option but tried anyway. It was such a shame since the unit still looked brand new in every way.

I will also say that the stainless steel being used on this newer model is odd and will not clean and polish like the older model. It's as if it's some sort of cheap stainless steel or inferior product is being used. I saw this as a complaint on another Thermador post. Just putting this all out here to keep others informed that might consider purchasing. I wish I had done more research before purchasing this newer unit.

Anyone would honestly think you were crazy if you told them that you couldn't get a quart of water to boil after 30 minutes of being on the burner. I'm not over shooting the flame beyond the pot, I have tried other pots, it's a mystery to me.

Sounds crazy. I have a 48" (different brand) and it has 2 double ring burners that get water boiling quickly. Do you have double ring burners, what is the highest BTU listed for your largest burner?

Ok, I looked it up for you. You have 2 18,000 BTU burners, mine are 15,500 so something is definitely really wrong!

When adding or changing appliances, Washington Gas (natural gas supplier Washington, DC region) requests you determine the gas requirements for all gas appliances (range, water heater, HVAC unit, etc.) and complete a form so that it can determine whether your gas service is sufficient and recommend remediation if it isn't.

Sounds like it might be a plumbing issue. And if not that, then you might need new parts for the burner. I have a Thermador gas cooktop and wall oven and while I don't have the boiling water issue, I do have an issue with how long it takes to pre-heat the oven, even using the "Fast Preheat" setting.

Talk to the service guy to see what he says. And if you can't figure this out, I'd seriously consider replacing the cooktop with induction.
