Bosch Benchmark double Wall ovens - any recent experience?

I have been looking at the Bosch Benchmark side swing double wall ovens. I read some reviews from 7 years ago about disappointing service, etc. Given they are date, was wondering if any has had any recent experience with Bosch Benchmark wall ovens..of any type: single, double, side swing or normal pull down makes no difference. Appreciate any insight into how you like your ovens. thanks!!

I do not love swing out oven doors in commercial kitchens where I have worked they are the biggest cause of burns . I have KA doulb e wall ovens both convection they are 15 yrs old still going strong just had service call for the cooling fans but that is the only one in 15 yrs. I run a catering bix form my home so they are well used and what ireally love is they do not heat up my kitchen when running. They heat up fast and the convection works great I love my Bosch DW biut their ranges if that helps I have never found a maker that makes everything wellso have never had an appliance pkg.

@Helen great to hear you have good experience with the Bosch wall oven. Ihave the double version side swing on order. I had read some 7 year old reviews that were negative on this site, but given the age of the reviews had thought much of the issue may have been corrected. how old is your oven?

@Patricia Colwell Consulting thanks for the iinput. I agree, there does not seem to be one brand that has it all. due to mobility issues the side swing is a good option for me, but also appreciate the warning about burns.

@susanrhill34, I have had them for 2.5 years and love them! Easier to remove things and I have not yet suffered any burns. What I have avoided is the blast of heat steaming up my glasses I used to get from my drop-down oven. And at 5'2", the ergonomics make incredible sense. They bake, roast, broil with excellent results. The "fast preheat" option is a great feature. No complaints here!

@MinnesotaMary thanks for the inpu…good to hear! in some 7year reviews I had read that the ovens put out a lot of heat into the room when running..have you found this to be an issue?

@susanrhill34, not a problem at all for us. In fact, I made a beef stew last week that takes 5 hours at 300 and no issues. I suppose the broiler puts out a bit of heat but for such a short time, it isn't a big deal.

I don't find it to put out more heat than a standard oven.

Perhaps some of those comments are from people who had older ovens which had vents in the back. For whatever reason ovens no longer vent in the back.

I know about this because when my friend upgraded her oven, she was distressed that all of her choces - and she was looking at relative expensive models like Thermador and Gaggenau no longer had the rear exterior vent that her older Thermador wall oven had.

I am plebian and when I remodeled I had been using an old Caloric stove with no vents except that the door didn't shut completely so I guess it vented from the front 🤣

In all seriousness I don't really notice any temperature differential. I am in Los Angeles so my interior temperature is generally the same regardless of exterior temperature. However I grew up in the Northeast in a home without central air conditioning and so the kitchen in the summer was a no man's land to be run in and out of and I don't think anyone wanted to actually use an oven - or even do much cooking in the hot days of summmer.

Of course - and not to hijack - back before people had ANY air conditioning, people did eat differently in the hot months and so the "Woman's Pages" had recipes for recipes that didn't heat up the kitchen - weren't ridiculous to eat on a super hot day - and/or were cooking in the morning when it was the coolest.

@Helen also grew up in the NE..and remember the hot/cold cooking situations too:) some things are definitely region oriented! thanks for the response!

I have the double Bosch Benchmark ovens with side swing. Installed in a new build 8 years ago. No compaints. I've enjoyed cooking with them!

CR tested the Bosch HBL8651UC which did not receive a high enough score to be recommended. The Benchmark HBLP651LUC and HBLP651UC are similar except that there are two convection ovens instead of one. Top rated for performance and reliability: Cafe CTD70DP2NS1 (HD).

@wdccruise thanks for the info. I had also read CR reviews of the wall ovens. generally I put a lot of stock in what they have to say, but in this case I really wanted the side swing option due to mobility issues. we currently have Jennair and I will say that I do not believe the Bosch to be as good, but there are so few options available with side swing. the Cafe offers french doors, but that even poses difficulties for me vs the side swing. I do wish that CR would put dates on when things had been reviewed consistently. manufacturers do make improvements to models over time and to me it seems like a valuable piece of info. thx for the response…appreciate your input.

When we remodeled our condoin 2010, I I I put in a Bosch 800 oven. I wasso happy with it that when we built in 2018 I again put in a Bosch oven My only regret is that I didnt get the side opening doors And I find CR reviews to be off more times than not

@cpartist thanks for the feedback and good to hear! I wish there were more options out there for side opening ovens..but I think the Bosch should serve me well.

I agree with @cpartist about Consumer Reports' track record. I am a hobby cake baker and my ovens perform perfectly for my needs.

Curious for any recent reports on the Bosch HBLP651LUC.. My GE profile has failed me after 18 months and due to too many snaffus, the warranty company refunded the entire double oven. I know, right?! So here I am with almost 5K to spend and all I can read about is the failure of control panels, despite brand, from Miele to Wolf to Cafe and everything inbetween.

Looks like buying what I want with decent reviews and getting an extended warranty is the way to go.

I didn't even consider the Bosch double oven, but after speaking to the most senior appliance repair person in my town, he recommended the Bosch. He's the one who told me about Speed Queen. I'm looking at the HBLP651LUC. That side open door would prove so helpful with that heavy Staub dutch oven when I'm baking sourdough!
