I think matter is not in chairs but curtains. They look skimpy. Nook looks dull. I would go wider with curtains and extra light or painting lighter.

Who sits in those chairs, when, and what do they do when sitting there? They don't seem like they'd face the TV enough for watching, nor do they seem to be placed for conversation with people on the sofa. So, do you need and want more chairs, and if so, I think they need to be placed differently.

Swivel chairs are expensive (compared to non-swivel). What would these chairs swivel to? I agree the nook needs filling out but not necessarily with larger chairs. Draperies would help. Maybe a "game table" - one that is nearly dining height, fitting between the existing chairs. A place for two people to chat away from the TV, perhaps.

Your curtains are fine. Not everyone needs black out! You can have a swivel put on many chairs so I would look for the shape you want first. Why a swivel? I don't see how that would change their use. The table idea for games/puzzels might make more sense.

The chairs are used for extra sitting when family comes over and i those sitting there do have conversations with those in the couch. It’s definitely not a comfortable sitting but don’t know what else to do .

I think the black chair creates a division from the space with the yellow ones. I agree better window coverings fuller for sure. I think the yellow chairs are fine but they need a table and a lamp to make them look like they belong. BTW please lower the TV.

It seems they added an extension to the side of the house. So I’m left with that space which I don’t know what to do with it. That’s why I added two chair to serve as an extra conversation area.

I was thinking in the future removing more of the wall that divdes the living room to that space .

Try putting "something" in the nook that is medium large: a bookcase or chest for example, and put the black chair in there with it and a reading lamp. Put one yellow chair where the black one is, and the other yellow chair near the staircase.

Move the rug out from the sofa and bring it more into the room, with just the front sofa legs on it. Rugs are meant to be walked on, and the rug will draw the room together. Right now, it looks like a big empty aisle in the room. The chair placement might help with family conversations and TV viewing.

I like the idea of a little reading nook or even put a small desk under the window. Would be a great spot for doing a jigsaw puzzle or reading a book.

I might separate the chairs and put them facing one another at opposite ends of the coffee table to make them a part of the conversation area.

The little nook would be a great spot for a chaise with a small table; a place to lounge and read...or maybe a small game table with some dining type chairs, or your two black modern chairs, where people can play games or do puzzles or kids can do homework, etc. Maybe a book case on one end and a floor lamp near the chaise or game table.

Get a nicely upholdered chair with small footprint, low back, open arms to put by the stairs.

In the side room put a console under the windows with seating benches tucked beneath that you pull out into the opening when family come to visit and you need extra seating. This helps to visually and practically bridge the two rooms.

In that small room you could put a tall book case on the far right wall. On the far left wall you could put a nice love seat if it fits or a huge cozy reading chair with floor lamp. It gives separate purpose to this area but is still connected.
