36" inch induction range recommendation

Hello,

We are trying to get a 36" induction range for our kitchen remodel. We have a 30" Miele induction range that we are really happy with at another location but wanting a 36". Since Miele doesn't have them, we are trying to pick between the Wolf and the Fisher Paykel. I'm not a big fan of the super contemporary look of the latest Wolf range (has no knobs). Also, don't like that the oven door isn't soft close. It makes such a big sound when closing and feels unsafe with kids around. I like the Fisher Paykel look but reading around in Houzz and other forums, I gather that its quality has improved but not quite at par with Wolf or Miele yet. I'm hoping to get a recommendation from other owners that have a Fisher Paykel induction range on whether they like it or not and if they have had any service or reliability issues with it. Many thanks!

We have the F&P 36” Classic in white. We love it. Considered the Wolf but didn’t want to wait and the price difference was enough to settle the question. We have had no problems at all but if we did there’s a 5 year warranty and we have good service where we’re at. The burners work well for us and the oven is amazing. My husband makes pizza every week and it is so fast.

@Lee M oh wow that looks amazing! Thanks for sharing the photo and your experience with the appliance thus far. Super helpful! Wolf's aren't available until August as per my local reps while FP is available in March/April timeframe. It's also a 3-4k cost saving, so definitely a strong contender. I'm assuming the induction makes a sound on the FP, right? Fwiw, we hear it on our 30" Miele but it doesn't really bother us much.

Another option you could consider is a 36" induction cooktop with a 36" or 30" oven underneath. That opens you up to more choices, and you don't need to find wall space for an oven. I don't know if it's more costly however. Some people here don't like to put an oven under a cooktop, because you have to lean down to get food in/out. But you'd be doing that anyway with a range. So, functionally you're at the same place.

@malabacat thanks, that's a great suggestion. Looking up listed prices, its lower in cost but I would think it nets out the same if you consider the extra cabinetry work that's needed. Only thing I'm wondering about if a 30" below a 36" induction cooktop will look weird but maybe it doesn't matter since there's cabinet separating the two appliances and therefore's there's visual separation ...

On our range the sound depends on the pan or pot. My Le Creuset is silent, the All Clad buzzes.

Also, I’d considered a single 30” oven below a 36” induction cooktop and I thought it would look fine. The range seemed simpler so we went that direction.

Krishna, what range did you end up picking? I’m currently trying to decide b/t the Fulgor Milano, F&P, Electrolux, Verona, or Smeg 36 inch induction ranges.

    hi Maureen,

We decided to get the Wolf 36" induction cooktop and get a 30" steam oven (https://www.subzero-wolf.com/wolf/ovens/steam-oven/cso30cm-b-black-legacy) installed under it along with making space for a drawer. Thanks to @malabacat for suggesting that idea. The overall cost of this combination was about the same as a F&P range but for our family the steam oven (which has a built-in convection oven) seemed more versatile than going with a 36" oven. As one example, we use the oven rarely in a given month and when we do we only bake small items. Also because we are veg eaters, we didn't feel the need for a bigger oven. The other feedback I heard from appliance companies I spoke to is that the 36" oven takes a lot longer to heat up compared to smaller ovens. We also wanted to get a subzero fridge and it just helped to keep everything in the same family to take advantage of extended warranties. All of that said, it wasn't an easy decision :).

    Hope this helps.

I would love to do the same combination that you did but was told not to put a Miele combi-steam under the counter by a Miele salesperson. I am surprised you even put a cooktop on top. I wonder whether Wolf designed them better in that sense. Did you discuss this with anybody? Thanks.

@Meltem KW The only thing to watch out for is steam coming out of the oven which if one is not careful could be harmful. Neither the sales person at Wolf nor Wolf appliance Support said it couldn't be done. Wolf support said there needs to be at least 1/4 inch separation between the induction burner and the steam oven.

So in summary, no it wasn't an issue with Wolf. You should call Miele's support line to find out if it's possible and if not why not. I find that most sales people aren't well versed with the details especially if they don't sell the appliance brand exclusively. Our kitchen will be installed in late may, so can report back with any findings then.

@Krishna Ramachandran Thank you very much for your reply!

Do you have any updates if you’re happy with the wolf combo and if it’s big enough? We’re looking to do a 30 wall oven with 36 cooktop too but have 3 boys to feed

It's worked out really well for us. There were some technical issues at the start due to it being a model and some replacement parts taking longer than usual to arrive but Wolf worked to resolve those issues. Been very stable since. It's much much better than the Miele induction range + stove that we also have experience with. Can't speak to the wall oven - we opted for the Wolf steam oven and its been a great choice for our needs.

Hi Krishna! I'm thinking about this same setup -- Wolf induction cooktop over a steam oven. Do you have any issues using the CSO in the base cabinet -- setting the cooking program, putting things in / taking them out, etc? Thank you!
