Hosta W 2022 ....................

Good morning getting late here. On to the Ws:

Why I was going to take bobby pins and put them into the sockets was beyond me. One of my parent's worst fears. I am still tempted.

K, so just to let y'all know X, y and z will all be on the same post.

Open season on drones is 365 days a year!

Have a great day! Let's see some Ws:

That eagle is no joke. I read that some European country is training birds of prey to take down drones. Sorry, no hosta photos.

The eagle is pretty incredible. I would like to have them pluck all the drones except the ones we have. My, we are a slow crowd today.

    So beautiful Beth.

Paula, love the cat and dog jokes…..that eagle is amazing!

Beth, I have all the ones you do, except Wu La La. My Waterslide has been slow too, yours is doing better than mine. I mine will be in it’s 4th year. Hope it takes a leap….I can’t wait for my World Cup to get as big as yours! Yours is awesome!

Peren, your Winsome is lovely especially in bloom! Winter Snow looks like a big one……I bought it to put in my sun bed and also may bury my mama cat’s ashes underneath. Here name was “Snow” and I first saw her in the snow outside soooo long ago, hence her name. I also bought Awakening Angel possibly for the same purpose. Not sure yet, but leaning towards WS. Your Wolverine is really pretty even with bird poop!

Ann, that story about the kid removing his braces is a hoot! Your Wheee looks get unfurling…. I love to take pics as the hostas are unfurling!

Sherrygirl, your Winter Snow is so shiny…..love that! Also very nice Wu La La!

I have to say, even though I put rows between my comments, houzz always collapses all the script.

Steve, I forgot you….lol…. I am loving the creamy border on Winter Warrior. Wishing Well must be new or is it a small blue? I like the leaf shape. I agree about Wolverine, mine is the first pip too.

    world on fire

it should come out of the lab this summer, then it will need time to grow large before sale. ...same with electric fire.

its a flasher. ...color comes as it emerges then fades, its an upright to show off the petioles

    after the blush, mid summer

    wildest dreams os

had to come out after 2 1/2 years of drought, i found a better spot for it after it recovered.

i can't remember if this was a sibling or division, probably its ultimate size.

Debra, I purchased both Waterslide and Wave Runner in 2018. Maybe next year yours will jump. I am hoping one day my Waterslide will look like Mbug's :)

Hosta Maker, I love World on Fire, it is pretty even after the flash.

Ann that was some crazy kid. I never had braces but I can understand wanting them off. Wheee! is great at any stage.

Sherry your Wheee! is very happy in a pot and so is W and S. You must fertilize them on a regular basis or maybe a slow release. Either way they look great. Winter Snow is a favorite of mine too.

Steve so many lovelies but Wunderbar caught my eye.

old_dirt I have got to get WW planted. Wonderful timing on your Whirlwind pic, so colouful. Your pic of Wheee! is mislabeled though. I never know whether to point these things out or not.

Debra Winter Snow is large and would be a lovely spot for Snow to rest. I adore World Cup. Yours and every other one. Wolverine has so many eyes! Very nice.

Shadow all of yours are perfect but Wishing Well is a standout.

Gary I can't even begin to say how much I love Winfield Mist. It is almost ethereal.

hosta_maker another winner with World on Fire.

mbug fantastic Waterslide! I am sure I am not alone in thinking that we all aspire to have plants look as good as yours. Perfection.

Laurie..that boy was trouble..I was friends with his sister..she told me her parents were so mad they never took him back to the orthodontist..can you imagine how painful it would’ve been for an unskilled kid without proper tools to remove braces?..

my Wheee! is the smallest here 🙁..

I love my trees..but they do block the sun and slow down my plants..

I would probably have a larger hosta collection with a little more sun and more open ground..we can only work with what we have..I’m very happy with most of my hosta..🙂

Ann he is lucky he did not break his teeth. Hopefully he grew up to be an engineer not a vandal! All of our plants start out small. I think you combine your love of trees and Hosta in a beautiful way. You should be happy even delighted with what you have created!

peren.all - You are definitely right that is not Whee, I'm thinking most likely another Whirlwind I divided and transplanted where my Whee was the year before and didn't change the marker. I appreciate anyone pointing out my mistakes and mislabels. My track record for ID's and record keeping leaves a lot to be desired.

Whee - from a previous year in the same location, it either withered away or I may have potted it up.

    Wu-La-La

    I forgot my Wu-La-La.

I am very much enjoying all your beautiful W's today!!!

mbug, all of yours look terrific!! How do you do it? I love how upright your Winter Snow is…..I think I am going to like mine when it arrives. Also really like the Wylde Green Cream…… I ordered that too because it’s on the sun tolerant list and I have lots of real estate there. What’s That is also nice….looks like a cross between June and Wheee! Lol

Hosta_maker, World on Fire is a stunner! Someday, a must have! Wildest Dreams has such great creamy edge and such large leaves! Very nice!

Old_dirt, somehow I forgot you ☺️. Winter Warrior is so lovely in a pot. It really shows off the cascading leaves. I like White Christmas……better get your vinegar treatment on it so the slugs don’t get it!

Gary, the White Feather is one I have looked at but am reluctant to buy…..I don’t know, something about no green…..where’s the chlorophyll??? How long have you grown it? It does look happy in that pot!

The story about the boy taking off his braces really made me think. I could understand the reaction of the parents and their not wanting to pay for get braces on again. Braces are expensive! I have had braces and know what they feel like. But I have never heard of someone pulling off the braces. Made me wonder if there was something more going on---such as the boy had a disability/disorder that had not been diagnosed yet. Some kids can be extremely sensitive such as autistic children who can be easily overwhelmed by bright lights, strong smells, loud noises, clothing materials, and other stimuli. I just think unusual behaviour warrants looking into.

    Now on to W hosta:

    Wheee!

Wolverine. Took me a while to get this one going, but I think we are on the right track now!

    Wiggles and Squiggles

    Wiggles and Squiggles

I think I need a thread called "what not to do with your hosta!" I was having difficulty growing these two hosta below and ended putting them in a small area. And now they both have become happier hosta, but are way too close and growing in this limited area. I will be removing them this season, and I don't think it's going to be easy!

War Paint did really well this last year.

debra, White Feather is only white in the spring then it slowly turns green and ugly in the summer. It's potted because can move it around to prevent melt-out and it's quite the slug magnet. When it turns green I move it to a sunnier location so it can store up energy for the next Spring.

newhostalady..I agree..I think this boy caused his family problems 🙁..my friend’s parents separated and both left our neighborhood..this was 55 or so? years ago..less help available then..it’s certainly abnormal to remove braces..thought of it only because of Paula’s crazy joke..

sorry guys to get off track..back to the alphabet!..

the difficult hosta in your small area have definitely bounced back..I think even one of them is too big for that spot!..

debra....good eyes! What's That is supposed to be the first white centered sport of Halcyon
