Agree the Hale navy doesn't complement the vanity. Did you try the gray counter top?

I would do a white to let your beautiful vanity pop. We have BM Simply White with our blue vanity and I like it

I would suggest a light shade of grey to complement the marble and tile. So the vanity pops.

Thanks all! I do have gold hardware on the vanity and all accessories and faucet. But the light is polished nickel and the mirror is frameless…maybe I should switch it to a gold-framed mirror. I was going for an historic dark look, but feel I missed the mark. Maybe also adding gold-framed pics about the toilet will help.
If I were to change to a light gray, I’ve looked at Gray Owl and Silver Chain, and am indecisive and overwhelmed at this point. Really wanted the HN wall color to work

I love a monochrome look and a historic dark vibe but this one has me feeling flat and I think it is because of the white paint on the ceiling and trim. I’d really push the envelope and do trim and ceiling in navy and get a different light fixture with a touch more historic perosnality and I think you will get the vibe you wanted. Your beautiful marble will really pop. And, if you have the ability to get a narrower mirror and light, I think it would look better.

We did an entirely navy-black powder room, trim and all, and it was really special , a total win.

LOVE the monochrome look. I think adding a patterned rug (something with white/gray) and art on the empty switch wall will create visual interest. The room isn't styled yet, so I think that might be why it's hard to settle into a look.

I think the wall color should be a few shades lighter. You can still get that darker sophisticated look while allowing the vanity to stand out a bit. If you decide to go light on the walls FYI Gray Owl has strong green undertones.

Oh wow - your bathroom sounds beautiful. Love the dark vibe that speaks historic. I can change the mirror for sure, but the light fixture was just put in and cost a fortune - this was before I knew I’d love the gold faucet and accessories. My other bathrooms all have polished nickel and I expected to continue that, until the navy vanity/gold hardware came in. I agree that the mirror looks totally out of place it hadn’t occurred to me until you mentioned changing it. Thank you for your suggestions- really appreciate the input!!

I like it as it is, and you could get Lutron Satin Colors switches, receptacles and plates in a color called Deep Sea, which would blend in better than white. They would not be a match but it's not really expected that switches would be an exact match anyway.

I don't think need to pop, contrast or be accented to look good, necessarily.

The dark walls are very pretty w/the marble and metal.

I might bring in a few marble shelves over the toilet with a few plants? maybe a bit of art or something? that would give you a bit of interest and color

I agree with Kendra and Beth - paint the ceiling, get a new brass framed mirror and add some artwork. Then reassess.

The white ceiling kills the drama you were going for. It needs to feel like a dark blanket around you.

If you are not attached to that shower curtain, I'd raise the rod to cover more of the white tile and get a longer curtain in a more dramatic color and print.

All very good suggestions and things I just hadn’t thought of, so I really appreciate all of your excellent advice! I will change the curtain, the mirror, add some marble shelves w/gold hardware above the toilet, framed picture on the switch wall, linens and rug, and see how it is once it’s been styled. And I’m thinking about the ceiling and the stunning wallpaper - I just love that look and the inspo pics from all. The outlet and covers are great ideas too. btw the toilet is a one piece kohler “Kathryn”. I just remodeled the primary bathroom upstairs with the same toilet (contractors just finished that one and rolled right into this guest bath), and loved it so much I put it in this bathroom too. It has a nice retro look and and I changed the trip lever to gold. The primary bath is a totally different look - Carrara marble shower, bm pale smoke walls, Coventry gray vanity with marble top, all polished nickel hardware, faucet and lights - flows nicely from the bedroom. But for the guest bath I wanted to go bold and dramatic. Thanks again all - I’ll post pics once I’ve styled the bathroom with all of these great suggestions!

I think the Hale Navy is very nice on the walls with your vanity. However it's the accessories that don't make that navy stand out. The mirror framed mirror you have and clear glass sconce above the vanity don't make the navy stand out. I notice your faucet is brass so why not go with all brass accessories. A white framed mirror would also work with brass.

If you don't like the dark walls, you can always paint them in a warm white but I think that changing the accessories to brass would do the trick.

I suggest installing the marble shelves last to see if you really need them. It seems like a good aim to tone down more white and up the dark colors. You have a ton of storage in the vanity and it seems like you don't really need storage on shelves. If the space feels empty, I'd hang a great moody pic instead.

Would love to see pics of your primary bath too. The Kohler Kathryn line is so beautiful. I looked into the Kathryn console sink but the price was too hefty.

put the wallpaper on the ceiling and leave the walls as is! now that would look amazing. (with the other accessories) YOu can try a peel and stick paper. much easier to use and change out

Any of the stunning wallpapers from HIWE on the ceiling would elevate this bathroom up several notches. I still think the navy paint up there would also work.

just a plug for a custom shower curtain if you don’t have one - that way you can raise the rod if you want and the curtain can still have nice length (custom width also helps it feel more luxe) - Etsy has lots of options

Aged rug!

I was just going to suggest wallpaper the ceiling and accessorize with more gold then I scrolled down. Those wall papers are stunning! So clearly I agree, that option seems the easiest too. My powder room is similar so I‘m glad it’s a hit! I am just missing the handsome cat!

Also if you can’t move the light fixture to another room, you could paint it if you are handy. I did that with mine, when the “aged” brass fixture arrived and was too shiny of a gold. It can be done, carefully.

Your bathroom looks great so far! And LOVE LOVE LOVE the cat!! So many great ideas in here! I'm getting ready to redo our powder room and bought a canvas with several blues and thinking about moving out of my comfort zone and painting the walls and ceilings blue. I just ordered two gold-framed peacock prints (below) and love the suggestion for a vintage rug. I also ordered a rounded edge rectangular gold-framed mirror and am looking at Etsy custom shower curtains. You all are the best - really love how everyone pitches in with ideas on this platform!! Oh, and the cat’s name is Stormy and she’s a love - I rescued her and her brother as kittens 8 years ago from my dad’s horse barn (born to a feral cat). Someone asked if I’d share pics of my primary bath which I mentioned earlier - will post those as well, along with the kids’ bath. They are all very different from the guest bath. It’s been a bathroom remodeling winter!
