A penny tile the same color as wall

Very pretty. I’d actually stick with white or similar to the wall color. You could liven it up with a gray grout to add some interest without doing too much. Best to keep these things neutral. But I’d definitely do a backsplash just for ease of cleaning. Consider a hex or picket style if you’re not into subway tile.

If you want to introduce color, you can paint the area in an eggshell finish - which makes it wipeable/cleanable. And this also makes it easy enough to change the color, if and when you decide you want something else.

No color. If you want color? Change up those couch pillows, add a big rug with some texture , light and plain, and maybe trade that leather chair for a great accent color. Like asparagus....

As to the splash ? the quartz and floor are bossy. Plain white, and the dreaded subway comes in zillions of larger format options.

When you take pictures, turn on all the lights. Otherwise the photos end up with a hint of gray that does not exist. I would start with a rug with a bit of color that does something to help add color to all the brown and gray.

I think your going to need something at least behind the stove.

If we can recommend anything we would say to look at doing something simple but not a color other than grey, taupe, or white. Here are a few backsplashes that we used in our clients kitchens which might work for your space.

I love your kitchen island chairs! Where are they from?

I also love your flooring, lights, fireplace surround, clerestory windows, counter top, and pillows. You bought a beautiful place!!! To me, I would paint the white doors the same cream color as your walls. I would change the brown leather chair to a black color or dark grey. I'm also a fan of slab kitchen cabinet doors instead of more traditional ones (ditto with slab doors).

Relative to your backsplash, a matt finish stainless steel might look nice or one of the greys from your countertop.
