How to add shade to deck?

My house has an A frame with a front deck. It gets summer morning sun and heats the house up for hours. Any thoughts on how to add a porch or other covering? A neighbor suggested perhaps bringing the roofline out to make a porch? Thoughts or pictures of something similar?
