The quality of light from ceiling fans is terrible. Save your money and get a different mode of lighting.

Can you show us a picture of the porch so we have some context? I don't know whether you're referring to your front porch or an enclosed porch on the back of your house. How much time do you spend on this porch? Do you need bright light or something subtle?

It's fine. Some fans look virtually identical with or without a light kit (example: Modern Fans Ball 42) and others look slightly different (example: Modern Fans Altus 52). Be sure the fans are listed for damp locations.

In my experience fans with lights that are not focused downward can cause an awful swirling effect when the light shines through the fan blades; the light kit of this Modern Fans Lotus would appear to avoid that problem because the lens is surrounded by metal. (The Lotus fan also ships with a cover that can replace the light kit if you decide you don't want or need the light.) Of course, if you have any recessed lights, be sure they also don't shine through the blades!

I agree with Beverly. I have a ceiling light on my porch that I never turn on. I prefer the string lights instead, they lend a much better ambiance. Or you could do one or two outdoor wall sconces.
