Need help with furniture layout for a small sunroom

I have a small sunroom that I am redoing. 10'6" by 16'3" We had 2 small loveseats that faced each other with the trunk in the middle. They were old and faded so we have removed them and our looking to buy some new furniture for the room. I plan on replacing the trunk it has seen better days as well. I want the room to be an inviting place to read or sit and have drinks with company. I have it in my mind to get a chaise lounge chair and a couple swivel rockers but I'm not sure how to pull that off. The room is really narrow. I do want the furniture to be inviting and comfortable. Our house is rather traditional but I am open to transitional pieces. The outside architecture is french country. The room is painted a soft mauve. I have a lot of plants that aren't in the room right now. I would like to pull in some flower but I don't want it to be a shabby chic look. Thinking more cozy with a casual elegance.

Waht direction do those windows face? I think sunrooms are tricky since you want the sun but it fades most faric quickly. I like soalr shades 10% for UV control and heat control the darker the weve the better the view is kept. The sky light will also need a shade . Then look for outdoor fabric for ant furniture you buy. I really have no clue as to your style so can't help with that. I would not do a chaise in a space where you want to entertain but a nice reading chair with an ottoman works great Then add 2 more chairs in a similar style anice coffee table a table for a reading lamp and a fun outdoor rug.

The windows face south and yes fabric fading has been an issue. The windows do have a uv coating. I like the idea of outdoor fabric. I have cats too so for the furniture to be a little more washable is good.

This is a picture of a chaise that I thought might work. It looks like it would still be comfortable as a couch because it has a back to most of it. It may be too big for the space though. 85.5" w x 37.5" d x 29" h

It is possible a bit too modern for my home but I am not a strict rule follower on that. I think with the right pillows I can soften the look.

    Stylewise I also like:

possibly matches my home better. I am afraid that there isn't really room for a sofa and I will be back to two tiny loveseats facing each other or 3 chairs at best.

Is this too crowded? The chairs rock and swivel. I moved the hutch to the side wall. I still have the monks bench I would like to keep in the room but I could move it to another room.

The coffee table can definitely be smaller and round.

What about 4 matching chairs with a round ottoman in the centre that can be used as a coffee table when you need it (with a tray on top) or to put your feet up when you’re just relaxing? Chairs could be arranged at 4 corners similar to the way the 2 are arranged in the drawing above.

I really like the chaise you chose and can imagine it would transition well with more traditional furniture in your home. While the chaise might look like it could be used as a sofa, I don't think two people would sit on it. However one person can sit on it as though it were a sofa and converse with people in the other two chairs. I think the chesterfield is not a great look for this space - too cumbersome.

We have a smaller loveseat chesterfield similar to the one pictured and two swivel chair near the windows of our smaller sunroom. With that view definitely get swivel chairs. I think a chaise won't work for entertaining and a small sofa will work better. a large storage ottoman with a tray could replace trunk as a coffee table. Add a couple tiny tables, plant stands or garden stools for other places to perch drinks.

Due to the two wide doors swinging into this room, your furniture options are limited. How often would you actually sit for drinks in this room with guests. We have found folks tend to gather at kitchen islands for drinks and conversations. This room is probably best with just two comfortable chairs and a large ottoman. Maybe a couple pull up low stools for the 3-4 times a year you need them. Where is the entrance into the space. Is their view out those windows? Do measure swivel chairs (usually 30-33” wide by 33-36” deep for comfy reading chairs) then use painter tape and mark that out on the floor to see how that works. Need more info to be sure on walkways needed.

Oh I think the recessed area is entry to this space. Here are some inspirational photos. You could modify any of these to style you want. With your love of plants, a “conservatory” look would be spectacular!

We never use the door at the far end that is behind the tree. The recessed area is the entry into the room. I love the conservatory looks.

Ok. That’s good to know. I will try some space plans for you later tonite, if I can. That will really help you define furniture sizes that will work. Very important step.

Sounds like you have some good help for the furniture, but I wanted to say that a light sage or mint green would look really nice IMO!

I have done a scale layout. Each square equals one Sq. Ft. You can put a 72/74” long sofa/love seat on far end of room with calm large art on wall over sofa. I put a sofa table in front of windows for some “conservatory” items. Bird cage(s) books plants. It is bamboo for more natural feeling. Two compact guest chairs are opposite the sofa and a 48” x 16” bench for a bit more seating but still keeping walkway open. Large palm in one corner and arc lamp on end of sofa for evening ambient light. You could do a 9 x 12’ indoor/outdoor rug in a faux seagrass look. Just depends on which style direction you want. I will post element ideas. Right now I can’t create a mood board on house.

Flo I think you have the dimensions wrong the room is 10'6" by 16'3. I wish I had those couple of extra feet!

Rev. 2. Similar concept but sized down. You need 24” min for walking and 18” from coffee table to seating.

I absolutely adore the bird cage! I like the 2 chairs but my husband is adament we get swivel rockers. The coffee table is too big. I am thinking something with a glass top to keep the room from feeling cramped. We did discuss skipping the center table and just using endtables. Another crazy problem with the room is the door. The largest opening in the room is 31".

Swivel rocker chairs are big. You could do one on door end of room. With love seat on other. You need Approx 36” round floor space to turn swivel rockers even 150 degrees. You can do glass but legs are key. Small legs keep open feeling. Both coffee table and love seat. But not too many legs. With this being sunny room, I would even consider dark green walls. That would be more calming and cooler feeling.

Go shopping and when you find swivel/rocker you like measure total depth of chair. Add 2” and cut a piece of cardboard or paper in a circle that size and set in the room. That’s the clearance you will need. It’s just the reality. Also, avoid swivels with the round metal piping base. They look awful. Really important to try to get to sit in the chair you want. Returning furniture is a pain. Read on line return policies carefully. See if you pay for return shipping.

Btw, a large coffee table actually makes spaces feel bigger, especially glass and metal. Just not sure with all your windows, you want more reflective elements. Hot! Although I personally love glass tables.

Try blocks of cranberry, a rich shade of red that has purple undertones. It provides life and passion alongside mauve....

Idk if this rug near enough to cranberry idea- if you love cranberry that is.

Check out the conspicuous round metal base to the swivel rocker that Everdebz posted. That is what I hate about swivel rockers. Unless you get one that has a skirt that covers them, or with a slipcover option. I suggest a creamy white for your walls (no more mauve!). And a faux sisal rug for your flooring. Go with a pretty fresh green color in patterns for your swivel chairs. And look at apartment sized sofas for your room, too. I suggest a linen colored one that you can add floral, patterned pillows to for color and texture. Less fussy. Allow the plants to add texture and green color to your space. I love Thibault fabrics, including their indoor/outdoor fabrics. Check them out!

PS: Look at antique shops or consignment stores, and Habitat for Humanity for vintage pieces of wicker or garden carts, bar carts, stands, etc. Those will compliment your sunroom, too!

Here is Rev. 3 with two swivel chairs. Also two small scale garden type chairs. 36” round glass top table. Chairs similar to these.

I see what you mean about the swivel rocker. We have one that you can't see the base but it is too big to fit through the door. I am hoping that any furniture we buy we can check out in person.

A narrow entry door is also a limiting factor. Is the exterior door from sunroom wider? Usually exterior doors are 36” wide. So that gives a way in. Plus, some of the swivel bases can be removed which would help. I can’t be sure without careful measurements. I would prefer a cozy love seat and one swivel chair. For several reasons. First, your “line of sight” coming into this room is looking at shorter wall. That is your focal point wall. The cozy loveseat you can curl up on with a book, would be my choice. Then perhaps a “C” table near the loveseat with an arc lamp that can be positioned over reading spot. Add art on that wall. Then you could position two compact chairs for added seating across from that piece. Small drink tables and that’s it. Might add cute small ottoman that could act as small table with a small tray when needed. Just depends on how you realistically will use this room.

Unfortunately the exterior doors are actually a little smaller.

This is what we ended up with. I am thinking about getting some curtains just on the sides but the room is already busy.

    It looks great!!!
