Personally I find it hideous. But if you like it what does that matter?

Since you asked, I do not care for it. Too busy and modern looking for my taste.

You have a fairly traditional cabinet. I don't think a contemporary slat wall adds anything here, and I don't think this needs to be a focal point. This design works better in a certain kind of contemporary house, and usually on a long uninterrupted wall.

Will venture my opinion - I don't care for it. As someone else said it's very busy and for me it's busy to the point of distraction. Also, I think it would be hard to keep clean.

It just doesn't work in your space, in that location. That is not a feature wall no matter what you do to it. Unless you're planning on changing your furnishings over to modern, it is not consistent with your style.

I would get a quote from a structural engineer on opening up the window… make it as large of a faded opening as possible.

If the other wall is open to the living space, I would get rid of the interior window and possibly the door opening on this wall. Or is that other opening on the other wall also an interior window.

Not a fan. It looks like you have a stove in the kitchen. What are the sink and stove out here for?

I don't think your home needs another feature to focus on. IMO you need to simplify your home and reduce the number of items.

I agree it looks much too busy.

I see slat walls frequently on IG, but feel they work best in other locations of the house (entry, tv wall, or perhaps an office) and in modern/contemporary and minimalist style homes. Installing a slat wall in that location seems forced and discordant to what else I see in the photo so also a no from me in this case.

This reminds me of a kitchen I saved from real estate

@palimpsest - I feel like you shared that as a "don't" but I LOVE that kitchen (minus the desk area)! Ha. Curves, slats, wood, colorful tile, windows and light - LOVE. Probably not entirely practical (can't imagine curved cabinetry is the best for storage) but it looks like a baller 70's dream.

I'm with you, JP L--love that kitchen too! I live in a 70s contemporary so it would fit. Our designer/contractor suggested slats in our kitchen but I nixed it because it felt like it would be a cleaning nightmare! I bet there's a whole lot of grease and dust and dog hair in there.

It seems to draw attention to the refrigerator and stove areas - those aren't areas that I'd like to highlight. So, I say no.

No, I like that kitchen. I would not like to take care of it but I like it.

This is 1970s. Imagine how much more seamlessly this could be designed with current, fully-integrated appliances.

Haha, everyone has their own preferences--I think that the 70s were god-awful design wise (and fashion too)!

I like it, too. If you want a wood accent there - go for it.

And alternatively, you could always consider another wood paneling style that may work even better with your place. But I like the concept - and with the right elements surrounding it - the wood slats you are showing could be very nice. What are your furnishings like?

Smooth the ceiling first. Otherwise, if you add a slat wall with the popcorn ceiling, you'll have waaaay too many textures in one space giving your brain has no place to settle. I see you have some young folks in your home. Your brain needs to relax not be challenged with more things to focus on. You'll be surprised by how much a smooth ceiling changes the look. Remove the popcorn, then assess the slat wall.

I do like wood slats but I don't find they fit the style of your house. I would look more into enlarging the window and making use of that opened-up space... Doesn't need to be 30 inch deep counter, it can be a 24 inch countertop with 12 inch deep cabinets.

Spend your money on getting rid of the popcorn ceilings.

Yes the popcorn ceilings are definitely a nightmare to look at. Thanks for the input . I like the mid century look hoping to apply it somewhere else in the house . So many ideas thanks !
